Job Description
Miami Regional University has openings for a Part-time ESOL Instructor. The faculty member is the mainstay of the Academic Program and is a master teacher in their subject area. The faculty member must be an effective classroom manager, be adaptable to various situations, and have the ability to relate well to the students, other faculty members, and the administration of MRU. The faculty member must also believe in and follow the philosophy of MRU and the policies and procedures outlined within the Faculty and Employee Handbooks.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate a sensitivity to the needs of students, faculty and staff from multicultural backgrounds and demonstrate a commitment to our comprehensive learning institution.
Specific responsibilities for the position include the following:
· Educators are knowledgeable about the educational environment and recognize how political, institutional, social and economic forces impact their role. To function as a good “citizen of the academy,” the educator:
· Uses knowledge of history and current trends and issues in higher education as a basis for making recommendations and decisions on educational issues
· Identifies how social, economic, political, and institutional forces influence higher education in general education.
· Develops networks, collaborations, and partnerships to enhance education’s influence within the academic community.
· Integrates the values of respect, collegiality, professionalism, and caring to build an organizational climate that fosters the development of students and teachers.
· Incorporates the goals of the program and the mission of the parent institution when proposing a change or managing issues.
· Assumes a leadership role in various levels of institutional governance.
· Advocates for higher education in the political arena
Qualifications, Skills &amp; Experience:
All faculty teaching any ESOL course must possess, at minimum, a Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in the subject area in which he or she is teaching. Two (2) years or more of experience in the subject taught is desirable. Any additional requirements or certifications are addressed during the interview process prior to hiring.
