Kha'p'o Community School (KCS) is looking for a Tewa Teacher dedicated to Native language instruction in a Pre-K-6th Grade dual language educational environment. Key duties include developing language curriculum, teaching Tewa, and co-teaching using a project-based learning approach. KCS is a dual language (Tewa/English) Tribally Controlled Grant school serving Santa Clara Pueblo. We currently serve approximately 125 families, prenatal through 6th grade, and adult learners. Tewa Teachers are assigned to specific classrooms where they work in close collaboration with the classroom teacher to deliver dual-language instruction using a project-based learning approach. This collaborative approach includes developing curriculum and materials, supporting/leading field trips, and promoting Tewa language use throughout the classroom and school.
Applicants for this position must have a high school diploma or GED and a valid New Mexico drivers' license. They should be fluent in the Tewa language. Holding a Santa Clara Pueblo Tewa Language Certification is not required but preferred. Candidates must be willing to work towards Tribal language certification. Those with teaching experience are preferred, especially teaching Tewa language in an Elementary setting. Position Overview
Under the immediate supervision of the Director of Academics or a designee, History teachers provide instruction that promotes and develops both skills and an appreciation for the arts and world languages.
