Role Overview
Hale Kipa is looking for Relief Youth Counselors to work with youth between the ages of 12 and 17, who are placed in our Pu'uhonua Programs (Emergency Shelter) because they are experiencing some type of crisis. Youth can be referred by various referral sources. Length of stay in Pu'uhonua is anywhere from 1 day to 30+ days, while youth wait for their next, more permanent placement.
Relief Youth Counselors need to be able to manage crisis situations appropriately and help youth work through issues they are experiencing. They need to provide a stable, safe, structured, and nurturing environment, that encourages youth to participate in a program structure that includes: chores, meals, bedtime, quiet time, study time, meetings, and participation in planned activities and outings. Relief Youth Counselors also need to spend time discussing issues with youth to assist and support them in their emotional processing, encourage adaptive positive coping skill-building, and solidify/set limits. Also in the overnight position, Relief Youth Counselors are required to conduct and document 20-minute bed checks to ensure all youth are safe. Assisting youth with wake-up calls in the morning and helping them start their day off in a positive manner, are part of the responsibilities of this staff.
In addition to working with the youth, Relief Youth Counselors are also responsible for understanding and handling intake processes and procedures accurately, as well as submitting required documentation in a timely manner. Having some computer knowledge and being able to navigate the electronic health record is essential to the role. Working as part of a team and possessing good communication skills, both verbal and written; and representing Hale Kipa in a professional manner when working with collaterals, parents/guardians, and youth are imperative to the Relief Youth Counselor position.
Schedule: Relief Youth Counselors are on call and work is not regular. Work is dependent on shift availability and the availability of the Relief Youth Counselor. Available shifts include:

About the job:
In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors; the APRN - Nurse Practitioner provides primary or acute healthcare services for certain acute or chronic health conditions in specific populations in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.
What you will do:
<ul>
<li>Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview and examination.</li>
<li>Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies. Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and care.</li>
<li>Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions, including use of prescriptive authority and referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.</li>
<li>Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health and wellness, treatment options, and community resources.</li>
<li>Provides care in the context of promoting age and culture-appropriate informed choices, shared decision-making and the right to self-determination.</li>
<li>Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.</li>
<li>Ability to convey information both in writing and verbally. High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.</li>
<li>Practices within the guidelines of a Standard Care Arrangement with a collaborating physician(s).</li>
<li>Responsible for compliance with Organizational Integrity through raising questions and promptly reporting actual or potential wrongdoing.</li>

What we are looking for:
<ul>
<li>Minimum Education Requirement: Master’s degree in Nursing and graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with specialization in area of practice.</li>
<li>Licensure Requirement: State licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) and/or other designation as required by law.</li>
<li>Experience: Minimum of three years recent and relevant NP experience preferred.</li>

Duties and Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Guard I is responsible for enforcing all laws, rules and policies authorized by the Safety and Security Department.</li>
<li>Enforces all authorized laws, rules, and regulations.</li>
<li>Guard I performs alarm and patrol duties in assigned areas to protect life and property against theft, misappropriation, vandalism, fire, flood, or similar disaster, suspicious acts and/or persons, and other unusual conditions.</li>
<li>Provide vehicle transportation support function under direction of supervisor in compliance with government, corporate and management directives.</li>
<li>Aids and assists visitors, students, and staff.</li>
<li>Performs building security and safety checks.</li>
</ul>
 Qualifications 
<ul>
<li>Minimum of High School graduate or equivalent.</li>
<li>Prefer 1 year of experience in a security department, law enforcement agency, or experience with security duties.</li>
<li>Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record preferred.</li>
<li>Prefer Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).</li>
<li>Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with our Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.</li>
<li>Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a nationwide criminal background check.</li>
</ul>
Additional Requirements: Prefer knowledge of riot and crowd control techniques and law enforcement procedures. Must maintain CPR/FA Certification. Ability to obtain a bus driver's license. Ability to effectively relate to trainee population. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Position requires an ability to operate office equipment and drive an automobile. In addition, must be able to interact with team members and maintain an effective working relationship with all facility staff and departments.
