ASSISTANT CITY PROSECUTOR

Pay Grade: GRADE 175: $94,256.66 - $136,672.15 Annual Salary
FLSA Status: Exempt, Non-Merit, Full-Time, Eligible for benefits. 
GENERAL PURPOSE
This position prosecutes violations of criminal law and traffic regulations within Ogden City. Cases are filed in the Ogden City Justice Court. This position also handles de novo appeals with the Utah Second District Court. The assistant city prosecutor will receive direction from the city attorney and the city prosecutor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
<ul>
<li>Represent the City of Ogden in various criminal and traffic cases; research courtroom evidence; summon witnesses and negotiate pleas; attend morning video arraignments.</li>
<li>Prosecute civil remedies to enforce city ordinances, abate public nuisances, recover damages to city property, and condemn property for public purposes and other matters.</li>
<li>Review police reports and screen for possible cases with Police Officers; determine the number of offenses to be filed and develop case evidence.</li>
<li>Train and assist Police Officers with law enforcement issues.</li>
<li>Research legal questions and evaluate the impact on city policies and procedures.</li>
<li>Appear in court and administrative proceedings to represent the city's interests as required.</li>
<li>Coordinate office activities with those of other departments, outside agencies, and organizations; provide staff assistance to the City Attorney; prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence.</li>
<li>Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city. </li>
<li>Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. </li>
<li>Employees must work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employees must communicate in person with the public during office hours; and employees must use on-site equipment.</li>
<li>Participate on various boards and commissions; attend and participate in professional groups and committees.</li>
<li>Assist with various contract negotiations.</li>
<li>Respond to citizen complaints and research possible offenses.</li>
<li>Perform other related duties as required/assigned.</li>

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
<ul>
<li>Membership in the State Bar of Utah. </li>
<li>Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Utah driver's license.</li>
<li>Submission of a personal writing sample at the time of application. </li>
<li>Employees must complete NIMS IS100 and IS700 within three months of hire.</li>

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

<li>One year of responsible experience in city or related government law, including trial experience. </li>
<li>Criminal trial experience is helpful but not necessary. </li>

<li>An equivalent combination of the above-stated work experience and education is acceptable. </li>

About the Role:
 
In this role, you will work on-site from a TurboTax location, serving customers both in-person and virtually using Intuit TurboTax products. You will leverage your tax expertise to provide full service tax return preparation, tax advice, calculations, and software/product support. Your ability to demonstrate understanding of each customer’s unique situation, and connect with them on a personal level is critical to alleviating the stress some may feel when tackling their taxes. Whether assisting with simple W2 filings, navigating life events (marriage, children, elder care), or handling more complex tax scenarios like business income, amendments, or investments, you will serve as the go-to expert for your clients.

What You’ll Do:

<li>Be a Proactive Community Ambassador - Embody a "community ambassador" and "business owner" mindset to cultivate a robust customer base for TurboTax. Who You Are: 
<ul>
<li>Possess active, unrestricted credentials: EA (Enrolled Agent), CPA (Certified Public Accountant), or Practicing Attorney with strong tax preparation experience and extensive knowledge of tax laws. </li>
<li>Have an active Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) as required by law to file taxes. </li>
<li>Minimum of 2 years of paid experience filing 30 or more federal and state individual 1040 tax returns per tax season using professional tax preparation software. </li>
<li>Familiarity with Circular 230 </li>
<li>Willing and available to work a static weekly schedule with a minimum of 24 hours per week at a TurboTax location </li>
<li>Interest in building a local and online social presence as a TurboTax Expert, creating accessible tax-related content and resources for your community in accordance with Intuit’s policies </li>
<li>Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills are a plus </li>
