<li>Serve as classroom teacher for assigned grade level(s). Develop curricula and teach subjects, including but not limited to: reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, and science. </li>
<li>Follow the absent teacher's written lesson plans. Consult with the Assistant Principal and/or appropriate personnel to resolve questions and/or concerns.</li>
<li>Maintain a supportive classroom environment following the structures in place to support students, e.g. Morning Meetings, Brain Smart Start, and restorative circles.</li>
<li>Implement effective classroom management procedures. Maintain high standards and uphold the student code of conduct.</li>
<li>Vary instructional techniques to address individual learning styles and stimulate student interest.</li>
<li>Communicate academic and behavioral objectives to parents</li>
<li>Supervise non-classroom duties as assigned.</li>
<li>Work cooperatively with other teachers.</li>
<li>Supervise students in and out of classroom activities during the assigned working day. </li>
<li>Consult with the teaching team and teaching team partner on effective methods of classroom management.</li>
<li>Implement the school wide culture system in the classroom along with the discipline policy to effectively handle student behaviors.</li>

Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Bachelor's degree required. Bachelor's or Master's degree in education preferred.</li>
<li>1 year of experience as a classroom teacher preferred. Early childhood and/or elementary experience with 2+ years preferred.</li>
<li>Familiarity with IB Primary Years Program framework and inquiry-based teaching methods preferred.</li>

Job DescriptionBright Minds Inc. is a licensed HIT (High-Impact Tutoring) provider through OSSE for the 2024-2025 school year. Our REAL (Racial Equity in Academic Learning) HIT program provides individualized academic programs in high-priority DC schools. We are a franchise of the Huntington Learning Center, one of the largest tutoring companies in the country. Our DC HIT programs last year produced excellent results at our partner schools, with an average of over 5 months of grade level progress per student. We need passionate teachers who are available during the school day for 2-3 hours per day to work with students in 2nd-8th grade. Teachers are not required to work with the full grade range, your range will be determined in your interview. This program is funded by a grant to provide HIT (High-Impact Tutoring) to students in an effort to recover from learning loss during the pandemic. Teachers will use proven, individualized academic programs working with students in up to a 4:1 ratio. You will work with the same small group of students who are assigned to you from beginning to end of the program. The goal of the program is to help students bring their foundational academic skills in reading and math up to grade level. We work closely with the reading specialists at our partner schools to identify the correct starting levels and areas of opportunity in reading comprehension for each student. This allows us to put together an individualized program for each student. Then, we adjust it regularly, based on their scores and your feedback, to make sure we get the most we can out of each session. Teachers are expected to engage and interact with their students; we are looking for individuals in the community who see the importance of reading fluency and comprehension skills and are passionate about helping our students become better students. We know that this will make our students more confident and provide the foundation they will need to be successful in all of their classes moving forward. We have a proven, individualized Huntington Learning Center academic program for every student based on an academic evaluation. There is no prep, planning or looking for curriculum. You will be paid for simply teaching the assigned program to your assigned students, each at their own pace. Teachers always have the option to adjust their availability as needed.
