The Job-Readiness Counselor&nbsp;will be under the direct supervision of an SYEP/WLG Employment Specialist and will provide an appropriately safe, caring, and enriching environment for youth enrolled in Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee (HANAC) programming. They are responsible for establishing and maintaining working relationships with worksite supervisors. It is essential for them to conduct themselves appropriately and set a positive example for all stakeholders, including participants, parents, and co-workers. Counselors will assist youth in making informed choices and planning for meaningful futures by facilitating orientations, workshops, and project-based learning activities. The program goals include:

Job Duties &amp; Responsibilities
Building Relationships
<ul>
<li>Collaborate with co-teachers to continuously improve best classroom practices and to support the achievement of the overall goals and mission of the school</li>
<li>Communicate and reinforce high expectations and standards for behavior and academic performance, aligned with Neighborhood Charter Schools’ school culture and core values</li>
<li>Cultivate a strong classroom community with students and families</li>
</ul>
Intellectual Preparation and Instructional Delivery
<ul>
<li>Plan for and develop rigorous instruction and deliver it effectively to large and small groups of students</li>
<li>Solicit, welcome, and incorporate feedback to improve instructional practice</li>
<li>Reflect critically upon teaching experience and identify areas for further professional development</li>
<li>Maintain a secure and effective learning environment with impeccable order and clear expectations and routines</li>
</ul>
Data Analysis, Assessment and Grading
<ul>
<li>Provide students with meaningful feedback and give them multiple attempts to show their learning</li>
<li>Measure student achievement of and progress toward all learning objectives using appropriate assessment tools</li>
<li>Drive academic outcomes by analyzing data, reviewing scholar work, and implementing high-leverage instructional moves to ensure gains for all scholars</li>
<li>Participate in state-wide testing, including providing testing accommodations for New York State ELA and Math Exams and facilitating New York State Alternate Assessment</li>
<li>Use data to reflect on effectiveness of lessons and student achievement progress in order to improve instruction and personal practice</li>
</ul>
Differentiation and Special Populations
<ul>
<li>Seek out and learn about the needs of all students in the classroom, leveraging the resources and staff at the school&nbsp;</li>
<li>Differentiate for individual students based on their unique learning needs so all students are appropriately engaged and challenged</li>
<li>Employ various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of different learning styles to enable students to progress at accelerated rates, meet goals, and master concepts and skills</li>
<li>Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) and behavior plans in consultation with staff and families to ensure success for all scholars</li>
</ul>

<ul>
<li>Develop strong relationships with families through frequent communication and assist parents in understanding and supporting educational objectives, learning expectations and behavioral standards</li>
<li>Communicate respectfully and thoughtfully with parents/guardians, remaining sensitive to different families’ cultures, values and needs</li>

Educational Background and Work Experience
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree (required)</li>
<li>NYS Teaching Certification (preferred, certification pathway support offered)</li>
<li>One year of teaching experience working in an urban setting (preferred)</li>
<li>Knowledge of students with disabilities, specifically high-functioning autism spectrum disorders (preferred)</li>

Salary Range: $73,500-$95,000 +

Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY You will assist the teacher in providing a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment in which the children can grow physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually using the educational philosophies and goals of the program as guidelines. ABOUT YOU You will work to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the students.&nbsp; You will be comfortable working with children in an early childhood setting. WHAT YOU’LL DO
<ul>
<li>Meet with teacher to review and plan classroom activities.</li>
<li>Support teacher in providing a daily routine consistent with the needs of the children.</li>
<li>Assist teacher in classroom responsibilities (circle time, free play, snack, toileting, cognitive, motor activities, etc.).</li>
<li>Assist children in daily activities.</li>
<li>Be aware of the educational needs of each child (through observations, files, conferences) and work with students on an individual and group basis to help master IEP goals and objectives.</li>
<li>Conduct the class in the teacher’s absence.</li>
<li>Keep accurate class attendance records in the teacher’s absence.</li>
<li>Participate in team case conference meetings to review and update student intervention strategies.</li>
<li>Maintain professional communication with parents while deferring issues relating to children’s behavior and progress to the teacher.</li>
<li>Participate in parent-teacher conferences twice yearly, or as needed, to review IEP goals/objectives and school performance.</li>
<li>Provide and ensure appropriate supervision of the children at all times.</li>
<li>Provide and ensure appropriate language and positive methods of disciplinary intervention as defined by our staff policy.</li>
<li>Assist and maintain a safe clean, and well-organized learning environment.</li>
<li>Ensure that the Department of Health, Bureau of Day Care regulations is followed.</li>
<li>Assist in planning school wide events.</li>
<li>Maintain and respect confidentiality of child, parent, staff and other center issues.</li>
<li>Attend weekly staff meetings, in-service training and on and offsite professional development workshops, as determined by the school calendar.</li>
<li>Keep Teacher and Director informed of incidents relating to accidents, concerns about child’s progress, or extra ordinary circumstances.</li>
<li>Appropriately represent the Center in all forums.</li>
<li>Report to the Teacher, Director or in his/her absence the Supervising Teacher.</li>
</ul>
