Job Description
We’re hiring finish carpenters to work on our high-end residential construction projects. Dowbuilt finish carpenters have highly advanced interior and exterior carpentry skills and a demonstrated ability to execute work within very tight tolerances. This position requires an aptitude for providing creative constructability solutions to a variety of design challenges and is key to executing the high-quality work that Dowbuilt is known for.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
As a finish carpenter, you’ll be responsible for:
<ul>
<li>Reading and interpreting architectural and shop drawings</li>
<li>Managing building layout and dimensional control</li>
<li>Establishing clarity around deadlines, ensuring that any slipping deadlines are identified early, and new deadlines are communicated to the Foreman and Superintendent</li>
<li>Preparing and executing the daily work plan</li>
<li>Working and planning with subcontractors to make sure the project is ready for them to begin work each day</li>
<li>Helping fellow carpenters put new work into place, from framing to finish</li>
<li>Working with Superintendent to order materials</li>
<li>Evaluating cabinets, door and window details, and shop drawings</li>
<li>Providing mentoring and coaching to fellow Carpenters, Apprentice Carpenters, and Laborers</li>
<li>Identifying when other workers or subcontractors are not working in a safe manner and reporting unsafe practices to the Foreman or Superintendent</li>
</ul>
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
To be successful as a Dowbuilt finish carpenter, you’ll need:
<ul>
<li>Experience hanging doors and setting windows</li>
<li>Experience waterproofing; knowledge of how to properly flash exterior doors and windows</li>
<li>Proficiency with use of builder’s level</li>
<li>Thorough understanding of structural framing details</li>
<li>Knowledge of trim installation, including trim around doors, windows, base, base shoe, and crown molding</li>
<li>Familiarity with coping techniques for base &amp; crown</li>
<li>Familiarity with scribing techniques for cabinetry &amp; other trim work</li>
<li>The ability to mill materials to exact dimensions</li>
<li>The ability to cut tapers in trim boards when walls are out of plumb</li>
<li>Familiarity with making jigs for routering door and cabinet hardware</li>
<li>Familiarity with cabinetry and casework installation</li>
<li>Full understanding and working knowledge of tools required to perform high-level carpentry</li>
<li>Crown molding install at various wall angles with coped or mitered joinery</li>
<li>Paneling fabrication and install</li>
<li>Familiarity with some stair work including handrails and skirt boards</li>
<li>Satisfactory math skills figuring out angles and pitches for roofs, stairs and railings</li>
<li>Glue up joinery skills for shelving, table, or bench tops</li>
<li>Familiarity with sharpening techniques for chisels and plane blades</li>
<li>U.S. work authorization</li>
