Job Description
About Us
The Injury Law Guides is a small trial firm in San Antonio that handles catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases, primarily trucking, rideshare, dram shop, and workplace injuries. Our founder, Will Clark, is board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, has taken cases to seven and eight-figure results against Fortune 500 Companies and national trucking defendants, and speaks and teaches CLE for the San Antonio and Texas Trial Lawyers Associations.
We are not a volume shop. We carry a deliberately small docket of serious cases, most of them referred to us by other lawyers who could have kept them. That means every file gets real attention and it means the person in this role is trusted with meaningful work from day one, not stacked with 200 files and told to keep the wheels turning.
Much of our work runs the Laredo-to-San-Antonio corridor, so you'll see South Texas venues regularly.
The Role
You'll be the litigation paralegal on active suits, supporting the trial team from petition through trial. Day to day, that looks like:
- Drafting and responding to written discovery; tracking and calendaring discovery deadlines
- Issuing subpoenas and records requests; running down missing providers and records custodians
- E-filing in Texas state courts and managing the case docket and deadline calendar
- Deposition support, including scheduling, notices, prep binders, exhibit assembly, summaries
- Trial support, including exhibit lists, witness lists, demonstratives coordination, trial notebooks, etc.
- Coordinating with co-counsel, experts, treating providers, and clients
- Lien identification and resolution (hospital, health plan/ERISA, Medicare/Medicaid, child support)
- Keeping the file clean in Filevine so anyone can pick it up and know where things stand
What We're Looking For
Required
- 3+ years as a paralegal in personal injury litigation on the plaintiff's side
- Working knowledge of the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure and Texas e-filing
- Comfortable drafting first drafts of discovery and motions with limited hand-holding
- Strong writing, and the organizational discipline to run deadlines without being chased
- Someone who understands the file, meaning you notice the inconsistency in the records and evidence
Preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish (many of our clients and witnesses are Spanish-speaking)
- Filevine experience
- Trucking, dram shop, or nonsubscriber case experience is a plus
- Paralegal certificate or degree
