Direct Counsel is seeking an Investment Counsel with 8+ years of experience to join a leading Pensions, Benefits & Investments practice. This opportunity is focused on sophisticated alternative investments and private funds, with exposure to multiple asset classes and both investor- and manager-side matters.

The ideal candidate will have extensive private funds investment experience, strong academic credentials, and the ability to take ownership of significant transactions while efficiently managing multiple matters simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on alternative investments and private fund transactions across various asset classes

  • Represent investors and/or managers in private fund investments and related transactions

  • Support public market transactions on the investor or manager side

  • Take ownership of significant investment transactions from inception through completion

  • Manage multiple transactions simultaneously while maintaining efficiency, accuracy, and quality

  • Collaborate with attorneys, investment professionals, and other stakeholders on sophisticated transactions

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant legal experience

  • Extensive experience with alternative investments and private funds

  • Experience working with private funds across different asset classes and/or public market transactions

  • Experience representing either investors or managers, preferably both

  • Strong academic credentials

  • Excellent analytical, drafting, negotiation, and communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple sophisticated transactions efficiently and effectively

  • Strong ownership mindset and attention to detail

  • Admission to the state bar in the jurisdiction where the candidate applies

Compensation

The annual salary range is $175,000–$230,000, with actual compensation based on qualifications, experience, and other relevant factors.
