The Store Director is responsible for the overall operations, financial performance, customer experience, and team leadership of a high-volume grocery retail store. This position leads day-to-day store operations while developing a strong team culture, driving sales and profitability, maintaining operational standards, and ensuring an exceptional shopping experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of store operations, including front end, grocery, produce, meat, deli, bakery, prepared foods, and other departments as applicable.
- Drive sales, profitability, customer satisfaction, and overall store performance.
- Develop and execute business plans, sales strategies, and operational initiatives.
- Recruit, train, coach, develop, and retain store leadership and hourly team members.
- Establish clear performance expectations and hold leaders accountable for results.
- Monitor sales, labor, inventory, shrink, expenses, and other key performance indicators.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels and effective labor scheduling.
- Maintain high standards for merchandising, pricing, product availability, freshness, cleanliness, and store presentation.
- Deliver an outstanding customer experience and resolve customer concerns professionally.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety requirements, OSHA standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Minimize inventory loss, product shrink, waste, and operational expenses.
- Partner with district and regional leadership on business initiatives and company programs.
- Analyze financial and operational reports to identify opportunities and implement corrective actions.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance workplace culture.
- Ensure effective execution of promotions, seasonal programs, new product launches, and merchandising initiatives.
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, community partners, and other stakeholders.
- Lead store meetings and communicate company priorities, performance results, and operational expectations.
- Respond effectively to emergencies, operational disruptions, and other store-level issues.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive grocery or retail management experience, preferably including multi-department or high-volume store leadership.
- Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing large teams.
- Strong understanding of retail sales, merchandising, inventory management, labor management, and financial performance.
- Proven ability to improve sales, profitability, customer service, and operational efficiency.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
