California General Liability Associate Attorney
Job Description
Job DescriptionAbout the Role
This is a full-ownership litigation role within a civil defense practice group, focused on general liability matters across California. You'll carry your own caseload — not just support senior attorneys — with a defined path to senior associate, of counsel, and partner.
What You'll Do
-
Manage a full caseload of general liability defense matters, including premises liability, personal injury, and casualty defense.
-
Draft and respond to motions, complaints, and written discovery.
-
Attend and defend depositions, court hearings, and client meetings.
-
Assist with mediation and trial preparation.
-
Meet an annual billing target of approximately 1,950 hours, with quarterly bonus opportunities.
What We're Looking For
-
Active California bar license in good standing (required).
-
JD from an ABA-approved law school.
-
2–8 years of defense-side civil litigation experience; plaintiff-side experience will not be considered.
-
Hands-on experience with the full litigation lifecycle: discovery drafting, depositions, court appearances, and case management.
-
Demonstrated ability to manage 25+ active cases simultaneously and work independently.
-
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Westlaw, and LexisNexis.
-
Trial or mediation experience is a plus.
-
No book of business required.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: $130,000–$170,000 USD annually, plus quarterly bonus opportunities. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
Location
Fully remote within the United States; primary location is Los Angeles, CA. California-based candidates or those available during Pacific hours are preferred. Hybrid work in California offices (Los Angeles, San Diego, or San Francisco) is also an option.
