Join a dynamic team as an Embedded Software Engineer, where you will develop and maintain robust application software for transport refrigeration units. The role is centered around the Rust programming language, creating software that operates within Embedded Linux and Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) environments. You will work closely with the platform's technical lead to derive and document low-level designs, uphold software engineering standards through peer reviews and testing, and mentor engineers new to embedded software development.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deliver maintainable, safe, and concurrent embedded applications using Rust.
- Collaborate with the platform technical lead to derive, document, and execute detailed low-level software designs from higher-level system and functional requirements.
- Ensure software quality and adherence to development processes through unit and integration testing, peer code reviews, and maintaining high documentation standards.
- Mentor and guide team members new to embedded software development or the Rust programming language.
- Specify, design, and implement functionality and behaviors of embedded subsystems running on Embedded Linux and RTOS.
- Participate in the core phases of the software development lifecycle, from low-level design to execution.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years of embedded software development experience.
- Strong proficiency in the Rust programming language, including its ownership model, memory safety guarantees, and concurrency patterns.
- Proven experience developing software for Embedded Linux and open RTOS operating systems.
- Hands-on commitment to robust software development practices, including unit testing, integration testing, code reviews, and technical documentation standards.
- Experience with software tools such as Git version control system, Jira, or Azure DevOps.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar discipline.
- Master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience with TCP/IP, CAN, USB.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
Work Environment
Work in a high-technology HVAC engineering environment, contributing to a project that is ramping up a new generation platform for controllers. The role involves working on an Agile team with sprints, and it requires long-term support beyond the initial project phase.

This is a Contract position based out of Bloomington, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $70.00/hr.
