Full-Stack Engineer - Cloud & Real-Time Data Platform
Job Description
Job Description
Full-Stack Engineer, Cloud & Real-Time Data Platform - Build the Backend, Cloud, and Operator Interface for a Distributed RF Sensing Network
Tampa, FL | On-site
Opportunity Summary
Join an early-stage defense technology company building RF sensing and electronic warfare systems for demanding operational environments. Small sensing nodes placed throughout secure facilities detect wireless devices and send that data back to an operations center. You will build the software platform behind it: the cloud infrastructure, backend services, and data pipelines that ingest roughly 15 types of node data, plus the real-time dashboard operators use to act on it. This is a backend and cloud heavy role. You will design how data moves from the network edge to the cloud and on to the browser, and you will own that path end to end. Physical installation and cabling are handled by partners.
You will be part of a newly formed team of four to five engineers chartered to deliver a V0 of a new distributed RF sensing product in roughly 90 days. The team starts from a short list of functional goals rather than a fixed requirements document, has a dedicated development budget, and decides for itself how to get there. Work moves in weekly cycles, and engineers make the call on architecture and when something needs another pass.
About Us
We are a venture-backed defense technology startup founded by former Army officers with frontline electronic warfare and cyber experience. The company builds spectrum-control systems that detect, disrupt, mask, and manage wireless signals, and designs its receive, compute, and transmit boards, firmware, and software in-house down to the component level. Systems are already fielded with Army and special operations users, defense programs are advancing toward production, and a new commercial sensing product line is entering large-scale deployment. The team of roughly 15 is growing quickly ahead of its next funding round.
Job Duties
- Architect and build the cloud infrastructure that receives, stores, and serves data from sensing nodes across many facilities
- Design and build backend services, APIs, and data pipelines for high-rate, continuous sensor data
- Own the networking between nodes, the cloud, and operations centers, including secure data transport, connectivity, and access control
- Choose and manage databases and storage for live detections, device history, and alerts
- Set up deployment, monitoring, and infrastructure as code so the platform scales to new sites reliably
- Build the real-time operations dashboard showing detections, estimated locations, node status, and alerts across facility floor plans, replacing an early prototype
- Work with RF, FPGA, and geolocation engineers to define data formats and what operators need to see
- Present iterations to operations center users, collect feedback, and ship improvements on weekly cycles
Qualifications
- BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of full-stack software development, with the majority of your work on backend and cloud systems
- Hands-on experience designing and running production infrastructure on AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Strong backend development in Python, Go, Node.js, or similar, including APIs, services, and data pipelines
- Solid networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VPNs, firewalls, and secure data transport between distributed devices and the cloud
- Experience with streaming or messaging systems such as MQTT, Kafka, WebSockets, or similar
- Experience with SQL and time-series or NoSQL databases
- Working front-end skills in React and TypeScript, enough to build and own a real-time dashboard
- U.S. citizenship required, with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
- Comfortable turning broad goals into your own plan and delivering on weekly cycles with minimal top-down direction
- Able to work on-site in Tampa, FL
Preferred Experience
- IoT, sensor network, or edge-to-cloud platforms with many distributed devices
- Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines
- On-premises, hybrid, or restricted-network deployments, including government cloud environments
- RF, telecom, or defense experience, especially data fusion of sensor data
- Shipped a real-time operations, monitoring, or command-and-control dashboard into production
- Mapping or spatial visualization with Mapbox, Leaflet, deck.gl, or D3
- Security practices for mission-critical systems
Why Join Us
- Own the full software platform, from the network edge to the cloud to the operator screen
- Get direct feedback from real operators and see your changes in the field quickly
- Dedicated development budget, so the team is not forced to cut corners to hit the schedule
- Weekly build, test, and iterate cycles where engineers make the technical calls
- Optional travel to field exercises, new equipment training, and customer demonstrations for those who want it; no one is required to travel
- Health, dental, and vision coverage with employer-subsidized premiums
- 401(k) with company match, available from day one
- Unlimited PTO with no accrual period
- Streamlined hiring process: one recruiter conversation and one virtual technical interview with the team you would join
- Join at an early stage with significant ownership and long-term growth as the company scales
