The Sexual Justice Advocate Internship program enables you to participate in the ongoing work of defending human dignity. Internships offer a unique opportunity to combat sexual abuse and exploitation while gaining new skills through hands-on opportunities that seek to prevent exploitation before it begins. Interns also enjoy abundant opportunities to meet nationally recognized leaders in the field of anti-sexual exploitation and attend education briefings. ABOUT THIS POSITION:
The NCOSE Law Center, our own in-house embedded litigation law firm, has created and is spearheading the legal strategy and effort to end the sex trade as we know it within the next decade. NCOSEs Law Center is filing groundbreaking lawsuits, providing critical policy analysis of federal and state legislation, building networks of state-level activists, submitting amicus briefs on potentially precedent-setting cases, as well as training and mentoring the next generation of legal advocates committed to fighting sexual exploiters. Interns with the Law Center will utilize their education and training to participate in this work.

<li>Oversee criminal calendars and related tasks such as preparing conflict letters and tables for team calendar meetings, keeping up with the calendar for the upcoming weeks, filing conflict letters, and corresponding with courts and/or judicial staff to assist with resetting hearings</li>
<li>Oversee office correspondence and administrative tasks such as answering phone calls, communicating with clients and court staff, responding to emails, and reminding the team of upcoming deadlines</li>
<li>Keeping up with client billing and contacting clients about outstanding invoices</li>
<li>E-filing and/or mailing court documents to courts, the prosecuting attorney's office, and other parties as needed</li>
<li>Undertake other duties as needed to ensure the firm operates efficiently</li>
<li>Drafting a variety of legal documents using our templates for pleadings, motions, affidavits, etc., and proofreading documents when necessary</li>

Qualifications:

<li>Able to meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment</li>
<li>Previous experience (minimum 1-2 years) in a law firm as a legal assistant and/or paralegal is absolutely necessary. We will train the right person to use our computer-based model that works!</li>
<li>Candidates should have strong organizational and communication skills to effectively and efficiently interact with all levels of court personnel and clients</li>
<li>You can self-manage and work well alone, but also be part of a team. We are all dependent upon one another's success.</li>
<li>Technology and the use of computers are one of your strong suits</li>
<li>Candidates must have worked with legal software (preferably MyCase), case management, and docketing programs</li>
<li>High school diploma or its equivalent is required</li>
