Position Summary
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) currently consists of 16 attorneys working collaboratively to provide a full range of legal services to Columbia University. &nbsp;OGC is seeking an attorney to work primarily on employment related issues in connection with Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC).&nbsp; CUIMC is one of the nation’s largest academic medical centers, and includes the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, School of Dental Medicine, Mailman School of Public Health and School of Nursing. &nbsp;Experience in employment law is required. Responsibilities

Associate General Counsel (CUIMC)

Position Summary

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

<li>Support large-scale case investigations by gathering and analyzing evidence to establish liability across multiple plaintiffs and defendants.</li>
<li>Maintain frequent contact with clients to collect details on injuries, medical treatment and financial losses.</li>
<li>Obtain, review, and organize extensive medical and billing records for multiple claimants, ensuring accuracy and completeness for damages analysis.</li>
<li>Identify and track applicable health insurance coverage and potential liens for each case.</li>
<li>Draft form and individualized demand letters, settlement packages, and other mass tort legal correspondence with strong attention to detail.</li>
<li>Prepare cases for settlement, litigation, and trial, including exhibit and visual aid creation.</li>
<li>Draft and respond to discovery requests, pleadings, and procedural motions.</li>
<li>Conduct legal research and manage case timelines and deadlines.</li>
<li>Maintain professional communication with clients, co-counsel, opposing counsel, and court-appointed leadership.</li>
<li>Perform accurate, high-volume data entry and status updates in FileVine.</li>

Qualifications:

<li>Minimum of 4 years of experience in Plaintiff’s Personal Injury, or Mass Torts, with hands-on knowledge of both pre-litigation and litigation case management.</li>
<li>Familiarity with legal procedures in State &amp; Federal courts across the country.</li>
<li>Paralegal certificate or associate’s degree required.</li>
<li>Proficient in Microsoft Office with ability to quicky learn new legal technology.</li>
<li>Detail-oriented and highly organized, with strong time-management and follow-through skills.</li>

This role is equivalent to a Legal Secretary position that will provide administrative support to the firm's immigration team. This is a temp-to-hire role with an anticipated contract length of 8-12 weeks to determine fit.
