Special Education Teacher

SMYAL is seeking a motivated youth leader passionate about supporting and empowering LGBTQ+ youth. All year-long Youth Interns are between 18 and 24 years old. Interns are provided with access to professional development opportunities while assisting the SMYAL team with crucial administrative and programmatic tasks, as well as having the opportunity to contribute to SMYALs decision making and growth. The intern will have the opportunity to strengthen other skills they have previously specified as an area of interest, such as activism, social media management, fundraising, etc.
 
The Little SMYALs Youth Intern assists the Little SMYALs Programs Manager and Coordinator with the planning and implementation of the Little SMYALs program. The program is designed for LGBTQ+ youth ages 6-13. This will be a 12 month, paid, part-time internship for up to 20 hours per week, with some nights and weekends required. The Intern must be available during Little SMYALs programming times: currently virtual Wednesdays 5-7pm EST and in-person 2 Saturdays a month from 9:00am-3:30pm. The remaining hours will be determined together between the Intern and Manager. The Intern must also be available for weekly staff and team meetings, and weekly check-in meetings with the Manager. This position works both virtually and in-person at our main offices, located in Washington, DC, with an anticipated start in late January 2026.
 
Internship Responsibilities:

Requirements:

<li>Need to have obtained some post-secondary credits in Early Childhood Education or related area. </li>

Job Summary
The Health, Environment, and Safety (HSE) Trainer will be responsible for developing and delivering training programs on diverse topics to both employees and contractors. Conduct training needs assessments, create or update training materials, and maintain training records to ensure compliance with Strike and agency regulations, and promote a safe working environment. 
Primary Job Function: 
<ul>
<li>Work with HSE Specialist and Operations teams in conducting training sessions through various methods, workshops, and facilitation for new hires, existing employees, and contractors.</li>
<li>Communicate with strong verbal and written skills to effectively convey safety concepts and material to diverse audiences.</li>
<li>Educate employees on their roles and responsibilities in maintaining a safe working environment.</li>
<li>Juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.</li>
<li>Maintain detailed training records and employee progress.</li>
<li>Generate and distribute training reports/audits monthly, as needed, with detailed record keeping.</li>
<li>Assess, assist, and evaluate the effectiveness of training program topics and organization. </li>
<li>Coordinate with supervisors of OQ and Training on required HSE-related issues.</li>
<li>Coordinate with OQ supervisor and HSE Leadership on specific OQ requirements, orientation, and/or specific training needs of the client or third party.</li>
<li>Stay current with industry safety standards and best practices.</li>
</ul>
Other Duties: 
<ul>
<li>Travel for training sessions, workshops, or facilitation to various locations and states.</li>
<li>Work with Operations teams to identify safety training needs.</li>
<li>Travel to different working locations for an effective safety culture to help improve morale and responsibilities. </li>
<li>Provide guidance and support to employees on safety practices.</li>
<li>Assist with workplace incidents and investigations.</li>
</ul>
Experience:
<ul>
<li>Knowledge and expertise in conducting HSE training sessions.</li>
<li>HSE work in pipelines, facilities, maintenance, and/or related industries.</li>
<li>At least 5 years of experience in the field of construction or general construction. </li>
</ul>
Education/Training:
<ul>
<li>Minimum of High School diploma. </li>
<li>Bilingual is preferred.</li>
<li>Computer skills and abilities capable of working with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. </li>
<li>First Aid/CPR/AED certified, at minimum, T-t-T preferred.</li>
<li>OSHA 10 or 30 minimum and OSHA 500 preferred. </li>
</ul>
Competencies:
<ul>
<li>Problem-solving with sound decision-making promptly in accordance with Strike’s HSE standards. </li>
<li>Utilize organizational skills and pay attention to detail in the development of comprehensive training materials and safety culture.</li>
<li>Interpersonal skills allowing for building and engaging with employees, contractors, vendors, and emergency medical personnel with tact, a mature and professional demeanor. </li>
<li>Organizational skills to emphasize the importance of training schedules, materials, and records.</li>
</ul>
General Duties:

<li>Physical demands require the ability to endure outdoor activities, working long days, and inclement weather conditions because of frequent walking, talking, hearing, and sitting.&nbsp; </li>
