The Maya Angelou Academy at the DC Department of Corrections is an alternative school serving incarcerated men and women ages 18-22 with individualized education plans. Adjunct Instructor – College Algebra Description
 
South College is seeking dynamic, student-centered professionals to join our faculty team as Adjunct Instructors in College Algebra. Faculty in this role will teach undergraduate-level mathematics courses designed to provide students with a strong foundation in algebraic reasoning and problem-solving. 
 
Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Teach course content emphasizing linear, quadratic, exponential, and logarithmic functions; systems of equations; inequalities; polynomials; and applications of algebra to real-world problem scenarios. </li>
<li>Prepare students across a variety of disciplines to apply mathematical reasoning and quantitative skills in academic and professional settings. </li>
<li>Engage students through interactive strategies, real-world examples, and supportive guidance that builds confidence and competency in mathematics.</li>
</ul>
Courses are delivered in a hybrid format, blending on-ground and online instruction. Applicants must be able to attend on-ground courses at our Pittsburgh campus in Cranberry Township, PA. 
Requirements:
Education

<li>Applicants must have a minimum of a Master’s degree in Mathematics or a closely related field (terminal degree preferred).</li>

In 1998, the Foundation opened The SEED Public Charter School of Washington, D.C. – the nation’s first urban public college preparatory boarding school. Position Overview
The Substitute Teacher plays a critical role in maintaining instructional continuity and fostering a positive learning environment across various subjects and grade levels. This position ensures that student learning remains uninterrupted during teacher absences, providing consistent support for student progress and contributing to the overall school community. The substitute will adapt quickly to diverse classroom settings, ensuring students continue to progress through relevant content standards and are prepared for the next level of study and college-level coursework.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 
Instructional Delivery and Classroom Management
<ul>
<li>Provide an engaging and consistent learning environment conducive to student success, adhering to lesson plans provided by the absent teacher or general school guidelines.</li>
<li>Implement a variety of instructional methodologies, curriculum resources, and materials as outlined in daily plans to ensure student engagement and understanding.</li>
<li>Manage classroom routines and procedures effectively, maintaining a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning for all students.</li>
<li>Take student attendance accurately and promptly.</li>
<li>Assist in general building supervision and discipline of students outside of the classroom, as needed.</li>
<li>Collaborate with Student Life team members and Student Support to facilitate Falcon Hour.</li>
<li>Integrate Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) frameworks and strategies to foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.</li>
</ul>
Student Support and Communication
<ul>
<li>Monitor and report student progress to the absent teacher upon their return, providing clear and concise summaries of the day's activities and any notable student behaviors or academic needs.</li>
<li>Identify special needs of students and seek additional support from school staff (e.g., student support team, counselors) as needed.</li>
<li>Communicate with administration and relevant school staff, as necessary, regarding classroom matters or student concerns.</li>
</ul>
Collaboration and Professional Development
<ul>
<li>Collaborate with department heads and other teachers to understand curriculum expectations and school-wide instructional strategies.</li>
<li>Participate in professional learning opportunities, staff meetings, and other sponsored activities as directed by administration, especially during periods without immediate classroom assignments.</li>
<li>Assist in data analysis and professional development planning or delivery to support the School Improvement Plan and the Professional Learning Plan, as assigned.</li>
</ul>
Administrative and Communication
<ul>
<li>Maintain and submit necessary records, including attendance, student progress notes, and any incident reports.</li>
<li>Support the administration and proctoring of school-wide assessments or other relevant student evaluations as required by the school.</li>
<li>Adhere to the professional and ethical standards as outlined in the SEED PCS Staff Handbook.</li>
<li>Performs other duties as assigned by school leadership.</li>

Requirements:
Qualifications and Essential Competencies
