The Anderson School in Andover, MA provides a safe and nurturing special education school for students ages 3-12 years old with complex medical needs to maximize each student’s independence and growth. Our highly skilled, experienced and dedicated staff provide individualized instruction and support including educational and therapeutic programming. Our stimulating classroom setting includes specially designed classrooms to promote positive and active learning. High staff to student ratios including nurses in each classrooms enable our 11-month program to have non-traditional learners experience a traditional school experience. Family support is paramount including providing various on-site clinics and services to help our parents. 
 
The full-time Special Education Teacher in our Anderson School develops and implements curriculum and IEPs, maintains all necessary records/documentation, and providing overall direction and leadership within the classroom. School hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm and follows a school calendar, with a summer session. 
Requirements:
<ul>
<li>Current or application in process for a Massachusetts DESE Licensure (Pre-K-8) in moderate or severe disabilities is required. </li>
<li>Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree with major in Special Education. </li>
<li>Special Education classroom experience and/or internship(s) with students ages 3-12 who have a wide range of multiple disabilities. </li>
<li>Experience implementing all parts of the IEP process. </li>
<li>Excellent oral and written communication skills. </li>
<li>Ability to use technology effectively. </li>
<li>Ability to handle a multitude of varying and complex issues. </li>
<li>Suitable background and fingerprint check. </li>
<li>Mostly active - must be able to sit, bend, kneel and lift 25 pounds. </li>

 QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
<ul>
<li>
Consult with supervisors, resource teacher/coordinators and/or classroom teachers regarding students identified as at-risk through the administration of the chosen screening instrument.
</li>
<li>
Confer with and support master teachers and preschool classroom teachers in planning strategies, adapting teaching practices and making modifications that will assist the children in meeting the Teaching and Learning Expectations: Standards of Quality.
</li>
<li>
Conduct regular, periodic visits to classrooms, to observe and model appropriate strategies and interventions.
</li>
<li>
Observe, provide feedback, and make recommendations regarding application of strategies, classroom modifications, and the selection of adaptive materials and equipment for use in the classroom and other learning environments.
</li>
<li>
Plan and implement professional development for special education teachers, master teachers, assistants, and administrators to facilitate preschool inclusion.
</li>
<li>
Coordinate meetings in which professionals in all disciplines and families where appropriate, have the opportunity to consult, collaborate and plan as a team.
</li>
<li>
Assist teachers and master teachers with strategies for involving and educating families.
</li>
<li>
Gather data related to the performance of identified youngsters through interview of students, parents, school staff and contact with social service, mental health agencies and hospital centers and other individuals and agencies having knowledge of the student.
</li>
<li>
Generate written professional reports.
</li>
<li>
Participate in Child Study Team meetings as requested.
</li>
<li>
Serve as a resource to families, students and school/center staff to assist in the dissemination of information, referral for services and the development of program planning.
</li>
<li>
Monitor the progress of pupils with their jurisdiction.
</li>
<li>
Coordinate with and to foster positive relationships staff, school administrators, center directors, teachers, students, parents and family workers.
</li>
<li>
Maintain and report at required intervals accurate statistical data related to productivity and case responsibilities.
</li>
<li>
Perform additional or alternative duties, which are within the scope of employment, and certification.
