POSITION DESCRIPTION 
HGL is currently seeking a mid-level Engineer to support large-scale mining environmental remediation and construction projects in the Western US. As an Engineer III, you will work with our high performing HGL team and be responsible for supporting HGL’s portfolio of environmental remediation projects for various clients including USEPA and Montana Department of Environmental Quality. Projects may include remedial design support, oversight of remedial action (RA), remediation, demolition, and mine-waste cleanup projects.
The Engineer III will work in our Billings, MT office. This role will be hybrid working in-office three days per week with potential for up to 50% fieldwork or travel required. 
 
Responsibilities/Duties
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING 
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
<ul>
<li>Developing engineering studies, plans, designs, and specifications for the remediation of environmental contamination.</li>
<li>Potentially Responsible Party (PRP) oversight.</li>
<li>Interfacing with program and project managers, senior technical staff, the government customer, and RA Contractors.</li>
<li>Reporting of observations and compliance with contract documents.</li>
<li>Review of specifications, drawings, work plans, and ongoing construction activities to assure compliance.</li>
<li>Drafting project submittals.</li>
<li>Determining, communicating, and documenting deficiencies to ensure they are corrected in a timely manner.</li>
<li>Preparation of work plans and project deliverables (e.g., UFP-QAPPs, FSPs, RI/FS Reports, SSHP/HASPs, technical memoranda).</li>
<li>Understanding of remediation and construction site health &amp; safety (H&amp;S) hazards.</li>
<li>Potential 50% travel within the U.S. as needed to support projects.</li>

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL 
The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:

<li>Minimum of 6 years of directly related experience in environmental industry.</li>
<li>Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field such as: Mining Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.</li>
<li>Knowledge and experience of CERCLA, DoD, DOE, EPA, and/or RCRA projects.</li>
<li>Strong technical writing and documentation experience with prior experience contributing to the preparation of remedial design documents that are technically sound and accurately reflect the project approach and requirements.</li>
<li>Ability to conduct completion inspections, document project status and maintain records. </li>
<li>Working knowledge of Federal and state occupational regulations.</li>
<li>Ability to prepare daily reports documenting activities and findings. </li>
<li>Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and oral) including the ability to comfortably engage with varying levels of leadership, RA Contractors, subcontractors, internal and external stakeholders, etc. </li>
<li>Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of software, specifically in Excel and Word. </li>

<li>Travel throughout your territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit and perform, repair, and calibration needs and provide technical consultation. Initiate contact with prospective customers to grow new business.</li>
<li>Combining technical experience with company training, address customer needs and issues including troubleshooting and maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic and manual tools, pumps and equipment.</li>
<li>Adhere to company processes, procedures, safety standards and schedules with respect to daily activities including scheduled repairs and calibrations, cold-calling to prospective customers and other territory assignments as directed by the Branch Manager</li>
<li>Provide required reporting to Branch Manager as to schedule updates, tasks completed, market information and activity reports detailing weekly accomplishments.</li>
<li>Work with Branch Manager and service team members, engineers and customers to meet the growing day-to-day repair requirements.</li>
<li>Strive to meet goals and Key Performance Indicators as outlined by the Branch Manager</li>
<li>Provide support as needed to territory managers for growth of sales and service opportunities</li>
<li>Checks tools for safety decals and safe operating features and maintains an accurate schedule and record of maintenance.</li>
<li>Assist in familiarizing and training customers on tool operation and maintenance.</li>
<li>Demonstrates orientation toward excellent customer service by conducting daily activities, communications and interactions in a cooperative, positive and professional manner.</li>
<li>Completes all necessary paperwork for repairs and calibrations</li>
<li>Responsible for checking in inventory to ensure that parts and tools are available for customers. Maintain accurate inventory records, including detailed quarterly inventories of all parts and equipment.</li>
<li>Ensure vehicle conforms to safety standards by following through with scheduled repairs and maintenance</li>
</ul>

Education/Experience Required
High School diploma
3+ years of hands-on mechanical/technical experience
Self-motivated and driven to succeed.
Experience with a proven track record in customer satisfaction.
Excellent technical, communication, organizational and presentation skills.
Clean and valid driver’s license.
A safe, preferably covered, space at or near your home to keep the van overnight
Computer Skills Necessary
Basic Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel
Physical Demands/Requirements 
Be able to lift or move up to 75 pounds,
