Position Summary
We are seeking a Phlebotomist to join our Laboratory Department. This role is essential in supporting patient care by ensuring accurate, efficient, and compassionate specimen collection and handling. The Phlebotomist reports to the Laboratory Manager and works closely with physicians and staff across both GVMS locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws and specimen collections according to established procedures
- Travel between office locations based on coverage and staffing needs.
- Schedule patients in person or by phone and answer patient inquiries
- Direct patients to appropriate labs as required by their insurance
- Communicate with patients regarding Coumadin orders
- Log, sort, and distribute test results from outside laboratories
- Mail test results to external requesting physicians
- Prepare and stamp requisitions, specimen materials, and information sheets for other labs
- Operate and navigate within the EMR system efficiently
- Respond to messages via the EMR system
- Maintain and restock supplies (tubes, bandages, reagents, etc.)
- Prepare supplies for the next day, including labeling hemoccult tubes
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications
- Certification: Certification in Phlebotomy (Required)
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in a medical office setting (preferred)
- Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Strong customer service orientation
- Computer proficiency and strong typing skills
- High attention to detail and ability to multitask
- Reliable, positive, and collaborative team player
- Willingness to work at both GVMS locations
- Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, and compliance standards
