Commercial Painting Field Superintendent - South Denver
Job Description
Job Description
Painting Plus is seeking an experienced Commercial Painting Field Superintendent to oversee commercial and multifamily painting projects throughout the South Denver market and Colorado Front Range.
This is a field leadership position responsible for coordinating Painting Plus employee painters and subcontractor crews, maintaining production and quality standards, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within established labor and production budgets.
Each Field Superintendent is partnered with an assigned Project Manager. The Superintendent and Project Manager work as a team to successfully deliver projects while achieving the company's operational and financial goals.
The vast majority of our work is located along Colorado's Front Range. However, our projects occasionally require travel outside the immediate market. Candidates must be willing and able to complete occasional overnight travel when assigned to a project that requires it. This is a requirement of the position and should be considered before applying.
Position Responsibilities
- Oversee commercial and multifamily painting projects from mobilization through completion
- Direct and coordinate both employee painters and subcontractor painting crews
- Plan manpower and crew assignments based on project schedules and production requirements
- Monitor daily and weekly field production against established labor and project budgets
- Work closely with the assigned Project Manager to ensure budget, schedule, production, and financial targets are achieved
- Communicate production performance, manpower needs, project risks, and potential cost impacts to the Project Manager
- Review project scope, plans, specifications, schedules, and production expectations before and during construction
- Coordinate daily activities with general contractors, project managers, superintendents, and other trades
- Conduct regular jobsite walks to monitor production, manpower, quality, safety, and schedule
- Ensure employee and subcontractor crews clearly understand scope, production expectations, and quality standards
- Hold crews accountable for productivity, workmanship, schedule, and safety
- Identify potential scope changes and communicate them to the Project Manager before additional work is performed
- Coordinate materials, equipment, lifts, access, and other jobsite logistics
- Help prevent rework and unnecessary labor or material costs through proactive field management
- Maintain clean, organized, and professional jobsites
- Manage punch-list completion and assist with project closeout
- Build strong working relationships with general contractors, customers, employees, and subcontractor partners
- Travel to out-of-market projects when necessary, including occasional overnight travel
Field Superintendent / Project Manager Partnership
Our Field Superintendents do not manage projects alone. Each Superintendent is assigned a Project Manager who works alongside them throughout the project.
The Field Superintendent is responsible for field execution—manpower, production, quality, schedule, safety, and coordination. The Project Manager provides project and financial management support.
Together, they are accountable for successfully completing the project and achieving established budget and financial performance goals.
The Superintendent must understand how field decisions—including manpower, production rates, rework, scheduling, equipment, and subcontractor performance—directly affect project profitability.
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of relevant commercial construction or painting field experience
- Commercial painting experience strongly preferred
- Experience supervising employee labor and/or subcontractor crews
- Ability to manage multiple active projects and priorities
- Strong understanding of painting production, surface preparation, coatings, and application methods
- Ability to read plans, specifications, schedules, and project documents
- Understanding of labor productivity and the importance of meeting project budgets
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
- Comfortable communicating directly with general contractors and jobsite leadership
- Ability to identify problems early and develop practical solutions
- Ability to hold crews accountable while maintaining productive working relationships
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to travel between projects throughout the South Denver and Front Range markets
- Willingness and ability to complete occasional overnight travel as required by project assignments
What We're Looking For
We are looking for a field leader—not simply someone who visits jobs and reports problems.
The successful candidate takes ownership of field operations, anticipates issues, develops solutions, and communicates effectively with their Project Manager.
You should know what your crews accomplished today, what they need to accomplish tomorrow, and whether the project is tracking toward its schedule and production goals.
Success in this position means delivering quality work safely, maintaining schedules, meeting production expectations, controlling field costs, and helping the project team achieve its financial objectives.
Travel Expectations
The vast majority of Painting Plus projects are located along Colorado's Front Range, and this position is not intended to be a full-time traveling superintendent role.
However, our business occasionally requires us to perform projects outside the Front Range or at distances where daily commuting is impractical. When assigned to one of these projects, the Field Superintendent may be required to stay overnight for a period of time.
By applying for this position, candidates should understand and accept that occasional overnight travel is an expected part of the job.
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation based on experience
- Company vehicle or vehicle allowance
- Company phone/technology
- Paid time off
- Performance-based advancement opportunities
- Long-term career opportunity with a growing commercial painting contractor
