About the Opportunity

A well-established national, multi-office defense law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its growing Memphis office.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with approximately 3 years of litigation experience who is looking to expand their legal career, gain meaningful courtroom experience, and work alongside experienced litigators.

Insurance Defense experience is preferred but not required. The firm is open to attorneys from various litigation backgrounds who demonstrate strong legal research, writing, and case management skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage an active caseload through all phases of litigation, from inception through resolution.
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, legal memoranda, and other litigation documents.
• Conduct legal research and develop effective litigation strategies.
• Prepare and respond to written discovery.
• Attend hearings, depositions, mediations, and other court proceedings.
• Prepare cases for mediation, arbitration, and trial.
• Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and legal team members.
• Evaluate case developments and assist with settlement negotiations.
• Ensure compliance with court deadlines and client reporting requirements.
• Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and legal support staff to provide high-quality client service.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active Tennessee Bar license in good standing or ability to obtain admission promptly.
• Approximately 3 years of litigation experience preferred.
• Insurance Defense experience preferred but not required.
• Attorneys with Civil Litigation or other litigation backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Experience drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery documents.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
• Ability to independently manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to learn and grow within a defense litigation practice.
