Job Description

The Indiana Builders Association, Inc. (IBA) is a statewide not-for-profit trade association representing more than 2,600 member companies engaged in the residential and light commercial construction industry. Our advocacy team works with state leaders, policy makers, and industry leaders on public policies that promote our core mission of keeping housing safe and affordable.

The IBA seeks a governmental affairs intern for the 4-month, 2027 legislative session of the Indiana General Assembly. This paid internship ranges from 20 hours per week to full-time, weekdays beginning in early January 2027 and continuing through April 29, 2027.

\n

Compensation is $15/hour and includes parking.

\n


\n

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

\n

· Support IBA’s lobbyists during the legislative session at the Indiana Statehouse (Jan.-Apr. 2027)

\n

· Track specific housing-related legislation

\n

· Coordinate meetings with elected officials and stakeholders

\n

· Research issues that impact members

\n

· Create action alerts on priority issues and prepare weekly legislative reports for members

\n

· Attend legislative committee meetings and provide summary of relevant action

\n

· Assist in Builders Day at the Statehouse on February 22, 2027

\n

· Other duties as directed

\n


\n

QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS REQUIRED:

\n

· Knowledge of or interest in government, policy or the political process

\n

· Strong communication skills (written, verbal and listening) for effective internal communication with IBA staff and members as well as external communication with elected officials and staff

\n

· Ability to research issues from a policy and political perspective as they relate to the construction industry, and to respond to legislative and member requests in a timely and professional manner
