MENTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
With a music background, we are seeing someone to work with an autistic “B” average student enrolled in a music sound engineering program at University of Colorado Denver and formally a student as Arapahoe Community College. The sound engineering program is challenging, and the mentors provide academic music guidance, advice, feedback, and support to the mentee.
The mentor must be located in the Denver Metro Area. The mentor will be serving variously as role model, teacher, counselor, advisor, sponsor, advocate, and ally, depending on the specific goals and objectives negotiated with the mentee. Salary up to $20 per hour with substantial bonuses.
Responsibilities:
- Establishes, with the mentee, the mentee's explicit goals and objectives for the relationship
- Takes the initiative in the relationship but allows the mentee to take responsibility for their academic growth, development, and career planning
- Commits to fostering the academic relationship for the specified period of time
- Commits to meeting and attending classes in person or through Zoom with mentee on a regular basis
- Actively listens to mentee
- Provides frank, honest, and constructive assistance and feedback on college work assignments
- Provides encouragement and assists the mentee in identifying professional development activities
- Maintains confidentiality
- Reviews goals and objectives of the relationship with the mentee and his academic advisor and college support staff
- Follows through on commitments made to mentee
- Respects mentee's limits
- Explicitly states own limits
- Recognizes and works through conflicts in caring ways, invites discussion on differences with the mentee, and arranges for a third party to assist if necessary
- Makes only positive or neutral comments about the mentee to others; if disagreement over behavior or values arise, differences are shared with the mentee; if necessary, takes steps to end the relationship and tries to find mentee another mentor
Qualifications
· College Degree preferred but not required
· Some experience in mentoring (one to two years of experience preferred)
· Background in music
Salary
· $ up to $25 per/hour
· Bonuses up to $1000 per semester for academic performance.
