Job DescriptionClass B Fitter Welder fits, aligns, and welds structural or carbon steel components according to blueprints, engineering drawings, and industry codes like ASME.
Key Responsibilities

    • Fit-Up & Layout: Read blueprints and fabrication instructions to align, measure, and tack heavy steel parts before final welding.
    • Welding Operations: Perform MIG (GMAW) and Flux Core (FCAW) welding—and sometimes TIG or stick depending on the facility—following strict quality standards.
    • Material Preparation: Bevel, grind, and clean heavy steel or stainless steel plate edges using grinders and hand tools.
    • Inspection & Maintenance: Verify dimensions with measuring tools and keep welding equipment in safe working order.
    • Safety Compliance: Follow all shop safety rules, maintain a clean workspace, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Common Requirements & Qualifications
        • Experience: 2 to 5 years of verifiable fitting and welding experience in an industrial or structural manufacturing environment.
        • Weld Tests: Ability to pass standard plate tests, such as an Open Root 3G MIG/Flux Core weld test.
        • Technical Skills: Strong blueprint reading, mechanical aptitude, and basic math or layout skills.
        • Physical Demands: Ability to stand for long shifts, stoop, kneel, and regularly lift or maneuver heavy materials (often up to 50–70 lbs).
