We are a privately owned business located in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, PA. We are currently seeking an experienced and professional Director of Human Resources to lead our organization’s human resources strategy for an average of 250 employees, draft and enforce policies, recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compensation, benefits, and compliance with labor laws. This position will serve as a key link between management and staff, to align HR initiatives with overall business goals and foster a positive culture. They will manage the HR department, handle strategic workforce planning, talent development and ensures the company attracts, retains and supports a high-performing workforce.
Essential Job Duties:
- Collaborates with senior leadership to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention and develops and implements HR strategies that support organizational goals, growth and profitability.
- Plans, develops, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization’s human resource compliance and strategy needs.
- Administers all human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development; hiring and onboarding.
- Identifies staffing and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management, career development and succession planning.
- Conducts or acquires background checks, child abuse clearances and employee eligibility verifications.
- Implements new hire orientation on a monthly basis, and manages the employee recognition programs.
- Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organization’s human resource information system (HRIS).
- Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
- Develops and implements departmental budget.
- Facilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for staff.
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
- Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Leads employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Manages the Workers’ Compensation Injury process, including properly documenting incidents, filing any Workers' Compensation claims with the insurance company, and serves as the primary point of contact.
- Analyzes HR metrics to make informed decisions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Payroll Responsibilities:
- Ensuring all payroll data is accurately entered at Onboarding, and is maintained ongoing for accurate pay data for all employees
- Deal with complaints and questions regarding payroll from employees and upper management,
- Investigate any discrepancies in payroll

- Ability to work independently, leading the one-person HR Department

- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn organizations HRIS and talent management systems
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required;
- At least five+ years of human resource management experience required.
- SHRM-CP or HRCI PHR
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree preferred.
- SHRM-SCP or HRCI SPHR highly preferred
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift 15 lbs. at times
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities
