Position Summary
The BIM Designer – CAD Drafter is responsible for developing and maintaining detailed Building Information Models (BIM) and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drawings for construction projects. This role works collaboratively with project managers, foremen, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate coordination and construction / installation throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and able to balance multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate and detailed BIM models and CAD drawings for architectural, structural, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) disciplines.
- Collaborate with project teams to review design intent, resolve conflicts, and ensure model integrity.
- Update and maintain project documentation, including drawings, schedules, and specifications.
- Coordinate with engineers, architects, and project managers to incorporate design changes and facilitate clash detection.
- Utilize industry-standard software such as Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks for drafting and modeling tasks.
- Ensure compliance with company standards, codes, and project requirements.
- Support the development of project deliverables, including 2D documentation and 3D visualization.
- Assist in the preparation of construction documents and shop drawings.
- Conduct quality control reviews to verify accuracy and completeness of models and drawings.
- Participate in project meetings and provide technical support as needed.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Drafting, or related field preferred.
- Proven experience in BIM modeling and CAD drafting for construction or engineering projects.
- Proficiency in BlueBeam, Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and other BIM/CAD software.
- Strong understanding of construction documents and design processes.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Navisworks, Civil 3D, or other relevant software.
- Knowledge of BIM standards and best practices.
- Familiarity with clash detection and coordination workflows.
- Ability to create visualizations and presentations from BIM models.
Work Environment
This position typically operates in a field office at a job site. Standard working hours apply, with flexibility required to meet project deadlines.
