Lightning Unlimited is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to join our growing team in Houston, Texas.
This is a hands-on, field-based opportunity for a skilled technician with experience servicing commercial and industrial standby power systems, including diesel and natural gas generators, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), switchgear, and associated electrical power equipment.
As a Field Service Technician, you'll diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems, perform repairs and preventive maintenance, and provide exceptional service to customers who rely on backup power to keep their operations running.

What You'll Do:
Generator Diagnostics & Repair
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues with commercial and industrial generator systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair diesel and natural gas generators.
- Diagnose and service Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS).
- Troubleshoot switchgear and associated standby power equipment.
- Use OEM diagnostic software, digital tools, meters, and specialized equipment to identify system faults.
- Complete repairs accurately and efficiently while maintaining high-quality standards.
Preventive Maintenance
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, including:
- Oil and filter changes
- Coolant inspections and service
- Fuel system checks
- Valve adjustments
- Battery testing
- Electrical system inspections
- Generator load and operational testing
- General equipment inspections
- Identify developing issues before they lead to equipment failure or customer downtime.
Technical Troubleshooting
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and service orders.
- Diagnose complex engine, electrical, fuel, control, and power-generation issues.
- Use manufacturer-specific diagnostic tools and software.
- Make sound technical decisions while working independently in the field.
Customer Service
- Serve as a professional representative of Lightning Unlimited at customer locations.
- Communicate clearly with customers regarding equipment condition, repairs, maintenance needs, and recommendations.
- Deliver responsive, service-first support.
- Build trusted, long-term customer relationships through technical expertise and reliable follow-through.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate service records and inspection reports.
- Document diagnostics, repairs, parts used, and recommendations.
- Complete job documentation accurately and on time.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Follow all company safety policies and applicable OSHA guidelines.
Travel Requirements
This is a field-based position requiring travel to customer locations.
- Regular travel throughout Texas.
- Occasional out-of-state travel.
- Some overnight stays are required based on customer and project needs.
- Company-provided service vehicle for work-related travel.
What We're Looking For:
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience servicing commercial or industrial generators.
- Strong working knowledge of diesel and/or natural gas generator systems.
- Experience diagnosing mechanical and electrical generator issues.
- Knowledge of generator engines, controls, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, technical manuals, and wiring diagrams.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.
- Comfortable using digital diagnostic tools and OEM software.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently in field and remote environments.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors and in commercial and industrial environments.
