Location: Remote with hybrid training
Preferred Regions: OH, PA, MI, IN, KY, WV (drivable to Independence, OH)
Employment Type: Full-time, direct hire

About the Role

The Substation Engineer leads design for medium to highvoltage power projects (12kV–345kV), owning drawing packages from feasibility through IFC. This role includes protection and control coordination, grounding design, equipment selection, and mentoring junior engineers. Tool familiarity can be developed during onboarding; the focus is on design substance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design of substation and MV/HV power systems
  • Produce oneline and threeline diagrams, AC/DC elementaries, grounding studies, lightning protection, duct banks, and station layouts
  • Develop equipment schedules, elevations, clearances, and foundation/steel coordination
  • Oversee 30/60/90 and IFC drawing packages
  • Support proposals and roughorderofmagnitude estimates
  • Collaborate with designbuild subcontractors
  • Mentor junior engineers
  • Ensure compliance with NESC and IEEE standards

Required Qualifications

  • BSEE or EET
  • 5–12 years of electrical power engineering experience
  • Demonstrated design experience: onelines, grounding, P&C, relay settings, NESC compliance
  • Ability to independently run projects
  • PE is a plus but not required

Preferred Background

  • Substation or protection engineer at utilities or consultancies
  • MV distribution designers seeking an HV growth path
  • Familiarity with ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, WinIGS, AutoCAD, or Revit (coachability emphasized)
