Role Description The Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Syracuse–Auburn Area, responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing drawings and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, soliciting and analyzing subcontractor and vendor quotes, and developing detailed cost breakdowns. The Estimator collaborates with project managers and other team members to support bid strategies, value engineering, and budget updates throughout the project lifecycle. The role also involves maintaining estimating data, updating unit cost information, and participating in pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost analyses.
- Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and general computer applications commonly used in construction estimating.
- Solid understanding of construction means and methods, materials, and subcontractor scopes across multiple trades.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with internal teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
- Relevant experience in construction estimating or related roles; experience with commercial or public projects is beneficial.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Ability to work on-site in the Greater Syracuse–Auburn Area and attend occasional project site visits and meetings.
