Title: Field Tech II (FTTH & Fixed Wireless)
Reports to: General Manager
Supervises Staff: no
FLSA Status: Full-Time; Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
The Field Technician II is responsible for independently performing installations, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of FTTH and fixed wireless internet services. This role requires strong technical knowledge of fiber optic systems, wireless networking, and customer support while ensuring installations meet company performance and safety standards.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Independently perform FTTH and fixed wireless advanced and typical installations for residential and business customers.
- Terminate fiber optic connectors and perform fiber splicing as required.
- Install and configure ONTs, routers, radios, antennas, and customer networking equipment.
- Conduct site surveys to determine optimal signal and equipment placement.
- Troubleshoot service interruptions, signal loss, and customer connectivity issues.
- Perform service upgrades and repairs.
- Perform maintenance on network infrastructure, including towers, relay points, and fiber distribution systems.
- Utilize OTDRs, power meters, and diagnostic tools for troubleshooting and testing.
- Assist with network expansions and new site activations.
- Maintain detailed documentation of repairs, installations, and inventory usage.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong understanding of FTTH systems, RF technology, and wireless networking.
- Experience with fiber splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of routing, Wi-Fi networking, and telecommunications infrastructure.
- Ability to work independently and manage daily workload.
Education and Experience:
- 2–5 years of telecommunications, fiber optic, or wireless internet experience preferred.
Certifications Preferred:
- CompTIA Network+
- Fiber Optic Association (FOA)
- ETA or similar telecommunications certifications
Physical and General Requirements:
- Ability to climb ladders and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations as needed.
