Fire Alarm Technician

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dependable Fire Alarm Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience installing, testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing fire alarm and life-safety systems.
The Fire Alarm Technician will be responsible for ensuring fire alarm systems are installed correctly, function properly, and comply with applicable fire safety codes, manufacturer specifications, and local regulations. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, program, test, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair fire alarm systems.
- Perform installation and service of fire alarm control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, modules, and related equipment.
- Diagnose system faults and identify electrical, wiring, programming, and equipment issues.
- Conduct testing and inspections to ensure systems are operating properly and meeting applicable codes and standards.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and service calls.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and system drawings.
- Perform system startups, testing, and commissioning.
- Document service work, inspections, repairs, and system deficiencies accurately.
- Coordinate with electricians, general contractors, project managers, and other trades on job sites.
- Ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.
- Maintain a professional relationship with customers, contractors, and job-site personnel.
- Respond to emergency service calls and troubleshoot system issues as needed.
- Stay current with fire alarm technology, manufacturer requirements, and applicable fire and life-safety codes.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience working with commercial fire alarm systems preferred.
- Hands-on experience with fire alarm installation, testing, inspection, and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of fire alarm systems, low-voltage electrical systems, and life-safety equipment.
- Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics.
- Knowledge of applicable fire alarm codes and regulations, including NFPA standards.
- Experience with major fire alarm manufacturers is a plus.
- NICET certification is preferred but not required.
- State or local fire alarm license/certification, where required.
- OSHA 10 certification preferred.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work independently and troubleshoot problems effectively.
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work in commercial and industrial construction environments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and work on elevated platforms for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials as required.
- Ability to work in construction environments and around electrical equipment.
- Ability to work in confined spaces or areas requiring elevated access when necessary
