This is an opportunity for a mechanical engineer to step into a leadership role with an established multidisciplinary engineering and design firm serving the built environment.

You’ll lead the mechanical engineering team’s building projects, while remaining connected to the technical and project work. The role combines technical leadership, people development, resource planning, project oversight, and client relationships, giving you influence over both the team and the work it produces.

You’ll work alongside other engineering and design disciplines on a variety of building and facility projects. Rather than operating in a narrowly defined management position, you’ll have the opportunity to shape how the mechanical team works, develop engineers and designers, strengthen technical standards, and help grow client relationships.

What You’ll Do:

As Mechanical Team Leader, you’ll provide overall leadership for the mechanical discipline, with responsibilities including:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop mechanical engineers and designers on a wide variety of commercial building projects
  • Establish expectations and support the professional growth of team members
  • Oversee mechanical engineering quality, QA/QC, codes, standards, and design practices
  • Help advance technical processes, tools, and continuous improvement within the discipline
  • Forecast workload and coordinate staffing and resources across active and upcoming projects
  • Provide oversight to help projects meet scope, schedule, budget, quality, and profitability goals
  • Coordinate mechanical work with other engineering and design disciplines
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with clients and project partners
  • Contribute to proposals, interviews, scopes, fees, and business development activities
  • Participate in hiring, performance management, and broader leadership initiatives

About You:

This opportunity could be a strong fit for a mechanical engineer who has developed substantial technical expertise and is ready to have a larger impact through leadership.

Relevant experience may include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Approximately 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience including HVAC, plumbing and piping for building systems
  • Experience leading, supervising, or formally managing engineering professionals
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, or the ability to obtain Minnesota licensure
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering codes, standards, and design practices
  • Experience with current mechanical design technologies, tools, and workflows
  • Ability to delegate effectively and mentor and develop technical staff
  • Experience planning projects, setting priorities, and balancing competing demands
  • Strong communication skills and comfort interacting directly with clients
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple engineering and design disciplines

Experience with multidisciplinary projects, staffing and workload forecasting, project budgets and schedules, proposals, interviews, or business development would also translate well to the position.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

Outstanding pay. Leadership. Growing Company. Ownership track.

The position offers more than traditional project-level mechanical engineering. You’ll have the ability to influence the direction and performance of an entire discipline while continuing to work closely with projects, clients, and other technical professionals.

You’ll join an established Minnesota-based multidisciplinary engineering and design organization where multiple technical disciplines work together internally. The environment provides opportunities to collaborate across specialties, work on varied building and facility projects, and take meaningful ownership of your work.

For someone who enjoys both engineering and developing people, this role provides an opportunity to combine technical expertise, team leadership, client interaction, and operational responsibility in one position.

Interested? Apply!

If you're an experienced mechanical engineer interested in leading people, influencing technical direction, and taking on broader responsibility for the success of a mechanical engineering team, we'd welcome a confidential conversation.

You do not need to match every preferred qualification to be considered. If your experience is relevant or transferable and the opportunity interests you, we encourage you to apply.
