Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Scandia Clinic Supervisor, with clinical support from the Osceola Medical Center Radiology and Laboratory Managers, the Radiologic Technologist/Laboratory Technician performs diagnostic imaging, cardiac testing, and laboratory services to assist clinicians in the diagnosis and treatment of injury and disease.

The primary responsibilities of this position include general radiographic examinations, electrocardiograms (ECGs), specimen collection, and laboratory testing. The technologist is responsible for providing safe, accurate, timely, and compassionate patient care while maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory, departmental, and OMC standards.

Typical Hours: Monday-Friday: 0730-1600

Responsibilities include:

Radiology and ECG

• Performs general radiographic examinations in accordance with established protocols and standards.
• Positions patients appropriately and selects appropriate exposure factors based on the examination and patient characteristics.
• Performs ECG examinations according to established protocols.
• Verifies patient identification, examination orders, and relevant clinical information prior to performing procedures.
• Applies appropriate radiation safety practices and the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principle.
• Reviews images for technical quality and recognizes potential abnormalities or concerns, communicating appropriately with the radiologist and/or ordering provider.
• Operates radiographic, ECG, and related equipment safely and effectively.

Laboratory

• Collects blood and non-blood specimens from patients of all ages using appropriate collection techniques.
• Verifies patient identification, accurately labels specimens, and ensures proper specimen handling and processing.
• Performs waived and non-waived laboratory testing within established training and competency requirements.
• Enters, documents, and reports laboratory results accurately in the LIS and by telephone when required.

Patient Care and Department Operations

• Maintains accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record and department records.
• Provides clear instructions and explanations to patients throughout the examination process.
• Delivers high-quality customer service to internal and external customers by communicating using AIDET.
• Maintains patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
• Performs quality assurance activities and participates in quality and process improvement initiatives.
• Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Follows OMC policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and department protocols.
• Works collaboratively with clinic, radiology, nursing, and other healthcare team members.
• Works independently and appropriately prioritizes workload based on patient needs and department requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of anatomy, radiographic positioning, techniques, and image quality.
• Knowledge of ECG procedures and basic cardiac rhythm recognition.
• Knowledge of specimen collection, handling, processing, and laboratory testing procedures.
• Knowledge of radiation safety and ALARA principles.
• Knowledge of patient safety, infection prevention, HIPAA, and OMC policies.
• Skill in operating radiographic, ECG, and related equipment.
• Skill in accurately collecting, labeling, processing, documenting, and reporting patient specimens and results.
• Skill in organizing, prioritizing, and completing assigned work.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to recognize technical or clinical concerns and communicate appropriately with the radiologist or ordering provider.
• Ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care and high-quality customer service.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain professionalism in difficult situations.

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology/radiography program.
• Current Registered Technologist, Radiography (RT(R)) credential through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• Current Minnesota Radiographer License
• Current BLS certification
• Training and experience sufficient to independently perform general radiographic exams.
• Experience performing ECG examinations preferred.
• Previous outpatient or clinic radiology and/or laboratory experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently in a clinic setting
• Ability to perform laboratory testing within established training and competency requirements.
