Job Description

Job Description

At Maple View Memory Care in Grand Forks, North Dakota, our residents live with dignity, comfort, and daily moments of joy. We are seeking a compassionate individual to join our team and bring purpose, connection, and engagement to the people in our care through meaningful programming.

About the Role

As a memory care activities aid, you will plan and lead activities designed to support residents living with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and related conditions. This position centers on creating a warm, structured environment where each resident can participate at their own ability level. You will work closely with nursing and care staff to tailor activities to individual histories, preferences, and cognitive needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and lead daily group and individual activities, including music, art, reminiscence, light exercise, sensory engagement, and seasonal events.
  • Adapt programming for residents at varying stages of memory loss so that every person has an opportunity to participate successfully.
  • Observe and document resident responses, noting changes in mood, engagement, and participation for the care team.
  • Encourage social interaction and provide gentle one-on-one companionship for residents who are withdrawn or anxious.
  • Set up and clean activity spaces, maintain supplies, and ensure materials are safe and appropriate.
  • Assist residents to and from activities, offering patient cueing and reassurance throughout.
  • Collaborate with families to incorporate personal interests and life stories into the activity calendar.

A memory care activities aid helps transform ordinary moments into opportunities for comfort and recognition, often using familiar routines to reduce agitation and build trust.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who brings genuine warmth and steadiness to this work. The ideal memory care activities aid is patient, observant, and comfortable adjusting plans in the moment when a resident's needs shift.

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior experience in senior care, memory care, or a related setting is valued, though we will train the right candidate.
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, dementia care approaches and techniques.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage residents, families, and coworkers respectfully.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, lift light materials, and assist residents during activities.
  • Reliability, flexibility, and a team-oriented attitude.

Success as a memory care activities aid depends less on a specific background and more on empathy, creativity, and the desire to make each day brighter. If you find meaning in small victories, a resident's smile during a favorite song or a hand held during a quiet moment, this role will reward you. As a memory care activities aid, you become a trusted and familiar presence in the daily rhythm of our community.
