Position Overview
- The Costing Lead analyzes product prints to build standardized Bills of Materials and develop accurate standard costs for our finished goods.
What you'll do
- Read and interpret engineering prints and drawings to scope each job
- Build accurate, detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) for new and recurring work
- Develop cost estimates that account for material, labor, and our in-house processes (laser, weld, powder coat, assembly)
- Partner with sales, engineering, and the plant floor to keep quotes accurate and competitive
- Lead and support the costing team, setting standards for accuracy and turnaround
- Maintain organized cost records, quote logs, and vendor documentation
- Communicate clearly across departments by email, phone, and in person to keep jobs moving
What you'll need
- Ability to read and understand manufacturing prints and drawings
- Experience building BOMs from prints or specs
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and how they drive cost
- Proficiency with computers and spreadsheets (Excel) and the ability to learn our ERP/costing system
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable spending the majority of the day at a computer
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to manage multiple quotes and deadlines at once
- Dependable and self-directed, with the ability to prioritize a busy workload
Preferred
- Hands-on or estimating experience in metal fabrication (laser cutting, welding, powder coat)
- Prior team lead or supervisory experience
- Familiarity with ERP or MRP systems
Schedule
This is a full-time, in-office position with semi-flexible start times. Choose the shift that works best for you: 5:00 AM – 1:00 PM, 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM, or 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
