The Facilities Maintenance Technician ensures the continuous and reliable operation of production and facility equipment by performing troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance. This role supports plant operations by maintaining mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on production and utility equipment, including steam, gas, air, and electrical systems. The technician works in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and plays a key role in minimizing downtime, supporting safe operations, and keeping equipment in optimal condition in alignment with company safety standards and OSHA regulations.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on production and facility equipment to determine root causes of failures.
- Repair or replace defective components such as motors, drives, valves, pumps, sensors, and control devices to restore equipment to proper operation.
- Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance on production and utility systems to reduce unplanned downtime and extend equipment life.
- Install, set up, and assist with commissioning new machinery and equipment, ensuring proper alignment, calibration, and safe operation.
- Maintain and service utility systems, including steam, gas, compressed air, and electrical distribution, to support continuous plant operations.
- Use troubleshooting principles to investigate equipment problems, evaluate options, implement repairs, and put measures in place to prevent recurrence.
- Adjust and fine-tune machine components, drives, and control systems to improve performance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, test equipment, and diagnostic devices to perform maintenance and repairs safely and effectively.
- Follow safe machine startup and shutdown procedures and ensure all work complies with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Work from work orders and maintenance tracking systems to prioritize tasks, document work performed, and update equipment history.
- Support parts inventory and ordering processes by identifying required components, assisting with sourcing, and helping maintain adequate stock levels.
- Collaborate closely with maintenance staff, production teams, and plant leadership to coordinate repairs, minimize production disruption, and support operational goals.
- Respond to equipment issues in a timely manner, work effectively under pressure, and maintain high levels of equipment uptime in a fast-paced environment.
- Operate shop equipment as needed and perform basic welding or fabrication tasks when required to support maintenance activities.
- Work safely in tight spaces, at heights, and on lifts or ladders while adhering to all safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3+ years of maintenance or mechanic experience, preferably in packaging or food production environments.
- Proven ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on industrial equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, including investigating issues, evaluating solutions, executing repairs, and implementing preventive measures.
- Hands-on experience with preventive and predictive maintenance on production and utility systems.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain continuous equipment uptime in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
- Experience repairing and adjusting machine components, drives, and control systems.
- Proficient use of tools, test equipment, and diagnostic devices commonly used in industrial maintenance.
- Knowledge of safe machine startup and shutdown procedures and practical experience working in compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Background working in industrial or manufacturing environments, ideally in food processing operations.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and safely operate shop equipment.
- Ability to work in tight spaces, at heights, and on lifts or ladders.
- Experience using work orders and maintenance tracking systems to document and manage maintenance activities.
- Familiarity with parts inventory and ordering processes.
- Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure while managing multiple priorities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Technical certification or trade school education in a related field is preferred.
- Experience in electrical maintenance and repair within industrial facilities.
- Mechanical and industrial maintenance experience in a production environment.
- Basic welding skills or exposure to welding tasks in support of maintenance work.
- Experience with facilities maintenance, including building systems and utilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a diverse, team-oriented environment; bilingual skills are a plus.
- Comfort working with installation and setup of new equipment and systems.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to established procedures and regulations.

Work Environment
This role is based in a food processing and manufacturing plant that operates in a fast-paced, production-driven environment. You will work around active machinery, moving production lines, and industrial equipment. Typical hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., providing a consistent full-time schedule. The position involves frequent physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, working at heights, and operating in tight or confined spaces. You can expect exposure to heat, steam, noise, and mechanical operations common in food production facilities. The workplace emphasizes strict adherence to OSHA guidelines and company safety procedures, with a strong safety culture and required use of appropriate personal protective equipment. You will work in a collaborative, team-oriented atmosphere alongside maintenance staff, production teams, and plant leadership, focusing on reliable operations and continuous improvement.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Angola, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $36.00/hr.
