Tow Truck Driver – Service Department Support
Location: Maplewood Toyota
Department: Service
Reports To: Service Manager / Fixed Ops Leadership
Position Summary
The Tow Truck Driver is responsible for safely transporting customer and dealership vehicles to and from the service department while delivering a professional, customer-first experience. This role supports service operations by ensuring timely vehicle movement, assisting with light service-related tasks, and maintaining a high standard of care for all vehicles.
This position is not a traditional tow operator role—it is a key part of the service team focused on supporting internal operations and enhancing the customer experience.
Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 yearly
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Transport
- Safely tow customer vehicles to and from the dealership
- Transport vehicles between dealership buildings as needed
- Perform vehicle pickups and deliveries for service customers
- Ensure proper loading, securing, and unloading procedures at all times
Customer Experience
- Provide a professional, friendly interaction at every customer touch point
- Clearly communicate arrival times and set expectations
- Represent the dealership brand while off-site
Operational Support
- Assist with vehicle staging, parking, and organization across buildings
- Support service advisors and managers with vehicle logistics
- Maintain awareness of daily service flow and prioritize accordingly
Vehicle & Equipment Care
- Perform daily inspections of tow truck and equipment
- Maintain cleanliness and presentation of the tow truck
- Report any maintenance or safety concerns immediately
Schedule Expectations
- Aligned with service department hours:
- Monday–Thursday: 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM
- Friday: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Saturday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Flexible scheduling based on business needs
- No after-hours or recovery/winch calls required
Scope of Work
- Dealership-only support (no third-party dispatch work)
- No accident recovery or “ditch pulls”
- Focus on planned, controlled towing situations where service can properly support the customer
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- DOT certification or ability to obtain if needed
- Previous towing or flatbed experience preferred (but not required)
- Ability to safely operate towing equipment and secure vehicles properly
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
Preferred (Not Required)
- Basic mechanical knowledge
- Experience in dealership or automotive environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Frequent standing, walking, and vehicle entry/exit
