Duties
- Assist with the installation of HVAC systems, including ductwork, equipment, and controls, following schematics and design plans.
- Support senior technicians in troubleshooting HVAC system issues using electrical diagnostics and equipment troubleshooting techniques.
- Participate in the repair and maintenance of mechanical systems such as boilers, refrigeration units—including ammonia refrigeration—and air conditioning systems.
- Learn to read and interpret schematics, HVAC design documents, and building automation system (BAS) controls to ensure precise installations and repairs.
- Help with plumbing connections related to HVAC systems and ensure all electrical systems are correctly wired and functioning safely.
- Conduct routine inspections of mechanical systems to identify potential issues before they escalate, supporting property maintenance efforts.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols including EPA regulations for refrigerants and proper handling of equipment.
Skills
- Basic construction experience or familiarity with building trades is highly desirable.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with an eagerness to learn HVAC/R systems repair and maintenance.
- Ability to interpret schematics, blueprints, and HVAC design documents accurately.
- Proficiency with hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, ohmmeters (for electrical testing), and other basic equipment repair tools.
- Knowledge of electrical diagnostics, equipment troubleshooting, and building automation systems (BAS).
- Familiarity with plumbing connections related to HVAC installations or repairs.
- Excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with clients during service calls or property maintenance tasks.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience operating a driver vehicle is preferred.
- Certifications such as EPA refrigerant handling certification are a plus but not required initially; training will be provided.
