You will investigate death scenes, gather and document evidence, interview witnesses and family members, evaluate medical and autopsy records, and work closely with law enforcement and forensic professionals. You'll communicate with families and partner agencies, provide court testimony when needed, determine cause and manner of death, and help maintain the efficient operation of the Coroner's Office through record keeping, training, reporting, and administrative support. Every case will offer the opportunity to use your investigative expertise while providing an essential service to the community.THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING AS OUR DEPUTY CORONERAssociate's degree or equivalent experienceExcellent interpersonal skillsStrong verbal and written communication skillsExperience working with bereaved familiesKnowledge of federal and state laws, rules, and regulationsBasic anatomy and medical terminologyKnowledge of investigative and interviewing techniques, procedures, and evidence documentation practicesAbility to work independently and to make professional judgmentAbility to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretionProficient in the use of computer softwareAbility to operate office equipment and investigative tools, including cameras, scanners, printers, communication equipment, and recording devicesAbility to safely use investigative instruments and specimen collection tools, including forceps, scalpels, syringes, and large-gauge needlesAbility to work in a variety of environments, including office settings, medical facilities, residences, outdoor locations, crawl spaces, lofts, and areas with uneven terrainAbility to work outdoors in all weather conditions and respond to scenes at any timeAbility to perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, dragging, and liftingAbility to frequently lift and move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift or move more than 100 poundsAbility to work in environments with potential exposure to biohazardsCertification by the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) is preferredSTEP INTO A CAREER THAT MATTERSOur initial mobile-friendly application takes just minutes to complete.
