Senior Litigation Paralegal

Job Description

Job Description

Company Overview

BoaVida Communities, a national real estate investment and property-management company specializing in manufactured-home and RV communities, is seeking an experienced Senior Litigation Paralegal to join its in-house legal department.

If you are ready to leave billable hours and competing client demands behind, consider the advantage of working in-house: there is only one client to keep happy. It is a large, active, national client—so there is still plenty to keep the work interesting.

The Opportunity

Approximately 70% of this role will initially focus on California manufactured-home unlawful-detainer matters. These cases generally involve repeatable fact patterns and established workflows rather than high-complexity litigation. The remaining 30% will involve broader corporate legal support for the General Counsel across BoaVida’s operations in approximately 38 states.

This position is ideal for an experienced litigation paralegal who is exceptionally detail-oriented, enjoys owning repeatable legal processes, and can independently identify and research state statutes, procedural requirements, local court rules, and judge-specific practices.

Responsibilities

California Litigation

  • Under the direct supervision of General Counsel, manage California manufactured-home unlawful-detainer matters from pre-filing review through judgment, possession, or other resolution under the supervision of General Counsel.
  • Review case files for factual, procedural, and documentary completeness before notices or pleadings are prepared.
  • Prepare and revise notices, complaints, summons, proofs of service, declarations, requests for entry of default, judgment packages, writ-related documents, discovery, motions, trial materials, and related correspondence.
  • Confirm compliance with applicable statutes, manufactured-housing requirements, notice periods, service rules, local court rules, standing orders, and filing procedures.
  • Conduct legal and procedural research involving California unlawful detainers, residential tenancies, manufactured-home communities, civil procedure, evidence, and post-judgment enforcement.
  • Maintain accurate litigation calendars, including filing, service, response, discovery, motion, trial, and enforcement deadlines.
  • Coordinate e-filing, service of process, court appearances, witnesses, trial exhibits, sheriff instructions, and possession-related procedures.
  • Communicate with community managers and other business personnel to gather facts, documents, payment histories, leases, notices, rules, and supporting evidence.
  • Develop and maintain standardized pleadings, checklists, workflows, matter templates, and quality-control procedures.
  • Track matter status, outcomes, cycle times, legal spend, recurring defenses, and operational issues.
  • Coordinate with and support outside counsel when a matter requires external representation or presents unusual complexity.
  • Help identify recurring operational problems and recommend preventive measures that reduce disputes and outside-counsel expense.

Corporate Legal Support

  • Support the General Counsel on corporate, real estate, regulatory, employment, contract, and litigation matters arising across approximately 38 states.
  • Conduct legal and local-rule research and prepare concise, practical summaries.
  • Assist with contract review, entity governance, subpoenas, demand letters, litigation holds, document collection, due-diligence projects, and regulatory responses.
  • Organize and maintain legal files, corporate records, templates, matter-management data, and privileged materials.
  • Coordinate with internal departments, community personnel, regulators, courts, vendors, and outside counsel.
  • Assist with special projects and other legal-department priorities as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • At least five years of substantive litigation paralegal experience.
  • Qualification to work as a paralegal under California Business and Professions Code section 6450.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to catch factual, procedural, calendaring, and document errors.
  • Strong legal-research skills, including the ability to locate and apply statutes, court rules, local rules, standing orders, and filing requirements.
  • Experience preparing litigation documents and managing matters through multiple procedural stages.
  • Strong written communication, proofreading, organizational, and file-management skills.
  • Ability to manage a substantial caseload without sacrificing accuracy or follow-through.
  • Sound judgment regarding confidential and attorney-client privileged information.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and promptly escalate unusual or higher-risk issues.
  • Strong technology skills, including proficiency with Microsoft 365, PDF tools, electronic filing systems, legal-research platforms (e.g. LexisNexis, WestLaw, etc.), and matter-management or document-management systems (e.g. iManage, Clio, etc.).
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule with regular attendance at BoaVida’s Sacramento office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience handling California residential unlawful detainers.
  • Experience with manufactured-home or mobile home tenancies and the California Mobile home Residency Law.
  • Experience preparing default and possession packages or coordinating post-judgment enforcement.
  • Familiarity with California superior-court e-filing systems and county-specific unlawful-detainer procedures.
  • In-house legal department or real estate industry experience.
  • Experience creating standardized workflows, document templates, checklists, reporting systems, or legal-operations processes.
  • Experience coordinating and managing outside counsel.

Who Will Succeed

The strongest candidate will:

  • Treat every date, dollar amount, party name, notice, and proof of service as material.
  • Enjoy making a repeatable process faster and more reliable without cutting corners.
  • Know when a familiar matter has developed an unfamiliar issue.
  • Research the rule rather than assume the answer.
  • Communicate comfortably with attorneys, courts, community managers, executives, residents, vendors, and outside counsel.
  • Be practical, responsive, accountable, and pleasant to work with.
  • Take ownership of matters and follow them through to completion.

Workplace and Compensation

BoaVida offers a casual, collaborative workplace with exceptionally friendly coworkers. The position is full-time and hybrid, with regular in-office work at the company’s Sacramento office.

The anticipated annual salary range is $90,000 to $120,000, based on the candidate’s relevant experience, substantive knowledge, technical abilities, judgment, and demonstrated capacity to perform the position’s responsibilities.

How to Apply

Please submit:

  • A résumé describing your litigation and paralegal experience.
  • A brief cover letter explaining why this position interests you.
  • A short description of your experience, if any, with unlawful detainers, residential or commercial tenancies, manufactured-home communities, or other high-volume litigation.
  • Optional: A writing or work sample that has been appropriately redacted to protect confidential and privileged information.

Employment decisions are based on qualifications, merit, and business needs without unlawful discrimination based on any status protected by applicable federal, state, or local law. Reasonable accommodations are available to qualified applicants and employees with disabilities
