Tensley Consulting is seeking a System Engineer – Level 2 to support systems engineering activities across the full system development lifecycle. This position will contribute to requirements definition, system design, integration, testing, and the development of technical solutions that meet customer and mission requirements.
The System Engineer will work closely with customers, project teams, product teams, and partner organizations to ensure technical solutions align with operational objectives and broader architectural goals.
Responsibilities
The System Engineer will:
- Perform systems engineering functions throughout the system lifecycle.
- Define and document concepts of operations (CONOPS), operational requirements, system requirements, and use cases supporting system development.
- Perform high-level system design and architecture activities.
- Define system and component performance requirements.
- Develop and document system, subsystem, and component interface requirements.
- Develop installation, integration, and acceptance test plans.
- Continuously assess existing organizational processes and work products to ensure they effectively support strategic and tactical objectives.
- Coordinate with customers, project teams, product teams, and related organizations to ensure solutions satisfy technical and operational requirements.
- Define and communicate a shared technical and architectural vision for solutions developed by product teams.
- Support engineering activities across the system lifecycle, including conception, design and development, testing, production, deployment, operations, maintenance, support, and decommissioning.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must possess a degree in Engineering or a relevant technical field, such as Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics, and meet one of the following education and experience combinations:
- Bachelor’s degree plus 7 years of relevant experience; or
- Master’s degree plus 5 years of relevant experience; or
- Doctoral degree plus 3 years of relevant experience.
Degree Coursework Requirements
For any qualifying degree from a program that is not ABET accredited, the academic program must include coursework in differential and integral calculus, as well as coursework in at least 5 of the following 18 technical areas:
- Statics or dynamics
- Strength of materials / stress-strain relationships
- Fluid mechanics or hydraulics
- Thermodynamics
- Electromagnetic fields
- Nature and properties of materials, including relationships between particle or aggregate structure and material properties
- Solid-state electronics
- Microprocessor applications
- Computer systems
- Signal processing
- Digital design
- Systems and control theory
- Circuits or generalized circuits
- Communication systems
- Power systems
- Computer networks
- Software development
- Comparable areas of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, or soil mechanics
Salary: $163,000-$180,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position, but is not guaranteed. Salary is based on experience, location and contractual requirements which could fall outside of the range listed.
