Senior Low Voltage & Electronic Security Systems Technician
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Low Voltage & Electronic Security Systems Technician to join our growing team. This position is ideal for a highly motivated technician with experience installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining a wide range of low-voltage systems in commercial, industrial, government, and institutional environments.
The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with electronic security systems, structured cabling, fiber optic infrastructure, network-connected devices, and integrated low-voltage technologies. This position offers opportunities to work on complex projects involving access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, intercom, networking, and specialty low-voltage systems.
Primary Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, label, test, and certify low-voltage cabling systems including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, coaxial cable, fiber optic cable, and specialty communication cabling.
- Install and commission Access Control Systems (ACS), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), CCTV/Video Surveillance Systems, Intercom Systems, and related low-voltage technologies.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot IP cameras, NVRs, VMS platforms, card access systems, controllers, readers, locking hardware, and network-connected security devices.
- Install and terminate fiber optic cabling, perform fiber testing, and troubleshoot fiber communication issues.
- Install and support network switches, PoE equipment, media converters, wireless bridges, and other low-voltage infrastructure components.
- Perform device programming, software configuration, system integration, commissioning, and customer acceptance testing.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, wiring, communication, and network-related issues.
- Lead installation teams on small to moderately complex projects.
- Conduct and document daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Maintain project documentation, as-built drawings, test reports, inventory records, and service records.
- Perform inspections, evaluations, preventive maintenance, and system upgrades.
- Coordinate with project managers, customers, and other trades to ensure successful project completion.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum three (3) years of recent, consecutive experience in low-voltage systems installation, maintenance, or service.
- Experience installing and servicing commercial electronic security systems.
- Experience with structured cabling systems and industry-standard installation practices.
- Knowledge of fiber optic cabling, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP addressing, PoE technology, network switches, routers, and network-connected devices.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, riser diagrams, floor plans, and technical specifications.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass customer-required background investigations.
Education Requirements
One of the following:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Military Electronics Training
- Graduation from an accredited Electronics Technician Program
- Equivalent combination of education and industry experience
