Lead Diesel Mechanic / Shop Foreman
Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Compensation: $42–$50/hour DOE + Benefits
Location: Paramount, CA
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM | Saturday, 8:00 AM–1:30 PM
The Opportunity
BBSI has partnered with a well-established, family-owned transportation and logistics company that has proudly served its customers since 2005. Based in Paramount, the company operates a fleet of approximately 90 Class A tractors and trailers and has built a strong reputation for stability and service.
We are seeking an experienced Lead Diesel Mechanic / Shop Foreman to take ownership of daily shop operations while leading and mentoring a team of three mechanics.
This is a hands-on leadership position for an experienced diesel mechanic who can diagnose complex mechanical issues, keep the shop organized, prioritize repairs, and ensure the fleet remains safe, compliant, and on the road.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and oversee a team of 3 diesel mechanics.
- Manage daily shop workflow, prioritize repairs, schedule technicians, and assign work.
- Perform and oversee advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on Class A tractors and trailers.
- Diagnose and repair Detroit and Cummins diesel engines and related systems.
- Ensure assigned repairs are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
- Inspect completed work and maintain high standards for quality and safety.
- Maintain fleet readiness and ensure repairs meet DOT and company compliance standards.
- Manage preventive maintenance schedules and vehicle maintenance files.
- Order parts and maintain appropriate parts and shop inventory.
- Organize parts, tools, equipment, and work areas for maximum efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop.
- Monitor technician performance, productivity, workmanship, and safety.
- Train and mentor mechanics while helping troubleshoot complex repairs.
- Communicate repair priorities, fleet status, and maintenance needs with management and operations.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of Class A heavy-duty diesel mechanic experience required
- Prior experience as a Lead Mechanic, Shop Foreman, Fleet Mechanic Lead, or similar leadership role
- Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with heavy-duty diesel trucks.
- Strong experience with Detroit and Cummins engines.
- Strong knowledge of Class 8 tractors, trailers, diesel engines, electrical systems, brakes, air systems, suspension, and preventive maintenance.
- Working knowledge of DOT inspection, maintenance, and fleet compliance requirements.
- Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems independently.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, train, mentor, and hold technicians accountable.
- Experience scheduling repairs, assigning work, ordering parts, and managing inventory.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Bilingual English/Spanish required.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Class A CDL and ASE certifications are a plus.
