Marine Crewing Specialist

We are seeking a motivated, organized, and proactive Marine Crewing Specialist to join our Marine Personnel team. Reporting directly to the Crewing Manager, this role is responsible for recruiting, coordinating, and supporting qualified vessel personnel while ensuring compliance with company, regulatory, and union requirements. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, builds strong relationships, and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

    \n
  • Partner with management to identify staffing needs and manage the full-cycle recruitment process for licensed officers and unlicensed vessel personnel, including sourcing, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding.
  • \n

  • Coordinate crew assignments while ensuring all required licenses, certifications, medical documentation, and training remain current and compliant with company and regulatory standards.
  • \n

  • Verify vessels are staffed with qualified, medically fit, and properly credentialed mariners.
  • \n

  • Coordinate domestic and international crew travel, including emergency travel arrangements outside of normal business hours when required.
  • \n

  • Represent the company at career fairs, maritime academies, industry events, and other recruiting initiatives to attract top maritime talent.
  • \n

  • Administer Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) and Shipping Rules, working closely with maritime unions to dispatch personnel and support labor relations activities.
  • \n

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with union representatives through regular communication and occasional travel to union halls, offices, and training facilities.
  • \n

  • Assist with union-employer grievance matters and other labor relations activities as needed.
  • \n

  • Maintain accurate crew schedules, personnel records, compliance documentation, and staffing reports using company databases and Microsoft Office applications.
  • \n

  • Communicate regularly with vessel personnel to foster positive employee relations, including occasional vessel visits.
  • \n

  • Participate in unemployment hearings and other employment-related administrative matters as required.
  • \n

  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of the Marine Personnel Department.

Required

  • Previous Recruiting and Staffing experience
  • \n

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • \n

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • \n

  • Professional judgment with a high level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • \n

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • \n

  • Proficiency in using multiple onboarding or work-related platforms
  • \n

  • Knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
  • \n

  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • \n

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • \n

Preferred

\n

    \n
  • Experience working with maritime unions and Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • \n

  • Experience in marine recruiting, vessel staffing, or marine crewing.
  • \n

  • Experience in marine operations or vessel personnel management.
  • \n

  • Human Resources experience in a unionized environment, understanding of USCG merchant mariner credentials
  • \n

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • \n
