Senior Network Engineer – Cloudflare & Zero Trust

PKH Enterprises is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to support a federal customer in the design, operation, and security of enterprise network and cloud infrastructure environments. This role plays a critical part in maintaining secure network connectivity, supporting Zero Trust initiatives, and ensuring the availability and performance of mission-critical infrastructure.

This position is fully remote; however, candidates must reside within the National Capital Region (NCR) and be available to support occasional after-hours maintenance activities and priority network incidents as needed.

Responsibilities

Enterprise Networking & Infrastructure

  • Administer and maintain enterprise networking environments supporting federal operations.
  • Manage and support Cloudflare services and Zero Trust networking capabilities.
  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, and related network security technologies.
  • Perform software, firmware, and security updates on Cisco networking equipment, including Cisco ASA firewalls.
  • Utilize Network Access Control (NAC) technologies to enforce secure access across the enterprise.
  • Monitor network performance, availability, and capacity using enterprise monitoring tools and proactively address operational issues.

Cloud Networking & Zero Trust Security

  • Administer networking components across AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform environments.
  • Manage cloud networking resources, including:
    • Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs)
    • Azure Virtual Networks (VNets)
    • Subnets
    • Network Security Groups (NSGs)
    • Routing tables
    • Firewall policies
  • Support the implementation and operation of Zero Trust network architectures.
  • Manage and enforce IP access controls in accordance with cybersecurity guidance.
  • Investigate and respond to anomalous or suspicious network activity in collaboration with cybersecurity teams.
  • Support secure connectivity between cloud, on-premises, and remote environments.

Operational Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Respond to network incidents and service disruptions in accordance with established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Diagnose and resolve complex networking issues involving routing, switching, cloud connectivity, firewalls, and security controls.
  • Develop and maintain network diagrams, configuration documentation, and operational procedures.
  • Partner with infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud, and application teams to support enterprise technology initiatives.
  • Contribute to modernization efforts and recommend improvements that enhance network reliability, scalability, security, and performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for education.
  • Eight (8) or more years of experience supporting enterprise network environments.
  • Experience administering enterprise routers, switches, firewalls, and related network infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience supporting Cloudflare solutions and Zero Trust networking technologies.
  • Experience managing Cisco networking equipment, including Cisco ASA firewalls.
  • Experience performing network device lifecycle management, upgrades, and patching activities.
  • Experience working with Network Access Control (NAC) solutions and network monitoring platforms.
  • Experience administering cloud networking services within AWS, Azure, and GCP environments.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • TCP/IP
    • DNS
    • VPN technologies
    • Routing and switching
    • Enterprise firewall administration
    • Zero Trust networking concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex enterprise network issues.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with geographically distributed teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal government network environments.
  • Experience supporting Trusted Internet Connection Access Provider (TICAP) environments.
  • Experience working within N-Wave network environments.
  • Experience implementing or operating Zero Trust architectures.
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification or equivalent.
  • AWS Advanced Networking Certification, Azure Network Engineer Associate, Google Professional Cloud Network Engineer, or comparable cloud networking credentials.
  • Experience supporting hybrid cloud networking solutions.
  • Familiarity with ITIL-based service management practices.

Work Location & Schedule

  • Fully remote position.
  • Candidates must reside within the National Capital Region (NCR).
  • Attendance at periodic company meetings and events, including quarterly All Hands meetings, is expected.
  • Standard business hours with participation in on-call support as required.
  • Occasional evening or weekend support may be necessary for maintenance activities, upgrades, or incident response.
  • Regular collaboration with distributed teams supporting mission-critical federal infrastructure.
