The Opportunity We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Estimator I to step into a key role within our estimating department, with a strong emphasis on the Public Works sector. In this role, you will collaborate with clients, project managers, architects, and engineers to strategically plan cost factors for building projects ranging from $20K to $3M.
What You Will Do
- Core Estimating & Bidding: Perform highly accurate quantity take-offs, assemble comprehensive bids, and ensure strict compliance with all project specifications and contract requirements.
- Subcontractor & Vendor Management: Develop clear scopes of work, organize subcontractor quotations, and analyze quotes to negotiate the best value. Issue properly documented purchase orders.
- Strategic Cost Management: Maintain and update our estimating cost database for material, labor, and unit pricing to ensure real-time accuracy.
- Project Lifecycle Tracking: Complete project budgeting and scheduling. Monitor ongoing progress, handle change orders, and proactively identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Collaboration & Representation: Work seamlessly with the broader estimating team to assemble bid packages, attend on-site pre-bid/proposal conferences, and conduct site visits as needed.
What You Bring to the Team
- Education: B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent field experience.
- Experience: 5+ years of commercial construction experience, including a minimum of 3 years of direct estimating experience in Concrete Construction. (Demonstrated understanding of large civil projects is a major plus).
- Technical Expertise: Strong grasp of basic and advanced construction means and methods. Working knowledge of union agreements and prevailing wage regulations.
- Key Competencies: Excellent time management, organizational, and negotiation skills. Ability to plan, direct, and present cost estimates with minimal supervision.
- Performance Under Pressure: Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines, and communicate effectively (both written and verbally).
