Immediate opening for a Business Development Manager in San Diego, CA who possesses:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Toxicology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field
  • 3 to 5+ years of business development, client services, or proposal management experience within a CRO, bioanalytical laboratory, or preclinical research environment
  • Experience with proposal generation, study quotations, cost estimates, RFP/RFQ responses, and Statements of Work
  • Hands-on or working knowledge of DMPK, Bioanalysis, and Toxicology workflows, with GLP experience preferred
  • Demonstrated success managing scientific client accounts and supporting IND-enabling studies


FULL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a Business Development Manager to drive new business development, proposal generation, client engagement, and strategic account growth for preclinical research services. This role will support biotech and pharmaceutical clients across in vitro ADME, in vivo PK/TK, GLP bioanalysis, toxicology, and related preclinical programs. The ideal candidate will combine a strong scientific foundation with CRO business development experience, proposal and pricing expertise, and the ability to translate complex study requirements into accurate scopes, quotations, and Statements of Work.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Identifying, qualifying, and pursuing new business opportunities for preclinical services
  • Supporting business development for in vitro ADME, in vivo PK/TK, GLP bioanalysis, and toxicology studies
  • Serving as a primary client contact for Requests for Proposal and Requests for Quotation
  • Ensuring timely, accurate, and detailed responses to RFPs and RFQs
  • Preparing customized proposals, quotations, pricing sheets, contracts, and Statements of Work
  • Collaborating with Study Directors, Operations, and Finance teams during proposal development
  • Leading proposal generation and cost estimation activities
  • Ensuring technical scope, study design, pricing, and timelines are accurately reflected in proposals
  • Supporting development of pricing strategies
  • Managing internal quote approvals
  • Ensuring proposals align with company margin and capacity goals
  • Building and maintaining long-term relationships with biotech and pharmaceutical clients
  • Supporting repeat business and strong client satisfaction
  • Managing sales pipelines and strategic client engagement activities
  • Working toward annual sales and revenue goals
  • Collaborating with DMPK, Bioanalysis, Toxicology, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Finance teams
  • Ensuring client requirements are accurately translated into study plans and quotations
  • Facilitating internal discussions regarding scientific feasibility, resource allocation, timelines, and pricing
  • Tracking project progress following award
  • Maintaining communication between clients and internal project teams
  • Supporting contract negotiations
  • Assisting with study scheduling and change order management
  • Applying working knowledge of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics to client discussions
  • Supporting proposals involving bioanalytical method development and LC-MS/MS
  • Applying knowledge of toxicology study design
  • Understanding GLP and regulatory requirements that may affect study scope, pricing, and timelines
  • Providing scientific input for proposals, Statements of Work, and client presentations
  • Participating in conferences, trade shows, client meetings, and business development activities
  • Representing company technical capabilities to prospective and existing clients
  • Collecting client feedback and monitoring relevant industry trends
  • Supporting leadership in identifying and developing new service offerings
  • Performing other duties as assigned

The selected candidate will also possess:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Toxicology, Chemistry, or a related field required
  • 3 to 5+ years of business development, client services, proposal management, or related commercial experience required
  • CRO, bioanalytical laboratory, or preclinical research industry experience required
  • Strong understanding of preclinical study design and terminology required
  • Knowledge of ADME, PK, TK, LC-MS/MS, dose routes, and bioanalytical validation required
  • DMPK experience preferred
  • Bioanalysis experience preferred
  • Toxicology experience preferred
  • GLP experience preferred
  • Experience supporting IND-enabling studies preferred
  • Proposal generation experience required
  • Study quotation and cost estimation experience required
  • RFP and RFQ response experience required
  • Statement of Work preparation experience required
  • Experience developing and presenting accurate and competitive sales quotations required
  • Scientific account management experience required
  • Experience using CRM and quotation management tools such as Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar preferred
  • Strong organizational and project management skills required
  • Excellent attention to detail required
  • Ability to manage multiple proposals, deadlines, clients, and internal priorities simultaneously
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Ability to communicate effectively with scientists, clients, operations teams, finance, and leadership
  • Strong client service and relationship management skills required
  • Self-motivated and goal-oriented work style required
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work onsite in San Diego, CA

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods while preparing proposals, reviewing study requirements, analyzing pricing, managing CRM activity, and communicating with clients
  • Ability to communicate by phone, email, video meeting, and in person throughout the workday
  • Ability to review proposals, quotations, Statements of Work, scientific documents, study designs, contracts, spreadsheets, and computer screens for extended periods
  • Ability to use hands and fingers for typing, data entry, presentations, CRM activity, and standard office tasks
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout office, laboratory, conference, and client environments as needed
  • Ability to travel to conferences, trade shows, client meetings, and other business development activities as required
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move standard presentation materials, trade show materials, files, or office supplies as needed
  • Ability to wear required PPE and follow applicable laboratory, client-site, and safety procedures when entering technical environments
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, organization, accuracy, and attention to detail while managing multiple client and business development priorities

Salary Range: $100,000 to $150,000/year
