Skilled Nursing Center of Chicago is seeking an experienced Human Resources Director to oversee all on-site human resources and payroll functions. Reporting to the Facility Administrator with support from regional leadership, this individual will serve as the primary HR resource for the center, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws while supporting recruitment, employee engagement, retention, and payroll administration.
Human Resource Director Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage the full-cycle recruitment and onboarding process, including applicant tracking, background screenings, employment eligibility verification, and new hire documentation.

Coordinate pre-employment requirements and ensure all onboarding steps are completed before employees begin work.

Maintain accurate employee records and process personnel changes, including new hires, promotions, transfers, wage adjustments, status changes, and separations.

Conduct and facilitate new employee orientation and onboarding programs.

Administer employee benefits enrollment, monitor eligibility, and coordinate payroll deductions.

Review, audit, and submit payroll accurately and on schedule.

Support recruitment initiatives through community outreach, job fairs, educational partnerships, and other talent acquisition efforts.

Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations, responding to questions, resolving concerns, and partnering with leadership to promote consistent application of workplace policies.

Conduct workplace investigations involving employee relations, safety, harassment, or other compliance matters while maintaining confidentiality.

Administer leave programs, including Family and Medical Leave and other protected leaves, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and privacy requirements.

Process employment verifications, wage garnishments, disability claims, medical support orders, and other employment-related documentation.

Maintain OSHA records and complete all required workplace safety reporting.

Maintain personnel files and HR records in accordance with regulatory and organizational requirements.

Provide guidance to managers regarding HR policies, procedures, and best practices.

Perform additional duties as assigned.
Human Resource Director Qualifications and Skills:

Strong understanding of employment laws and regulations, including EEO, I-9, FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ERISA, Workers' Compensation, and related compliance requirements.

Knowledge of employee benefits administration and payroll processes.

Experience maintaining OSHA documentation and employment records.

Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Experience coaching and supporting managers on HR policies and employee relations.
Human Resource Director Education & Experience:
-
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.

SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred.

Minimum of five (5) years of Human Resources experience, preferably in an HR Generalist or HR leadership role.

Prior experience in a skilled nursing, long-term care, hospital, or healthcare environment strongly preferred.

Experience with HRIS, payroll, applicant tracking, and learning management systems preferred.

Union experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to move throughout the facility during the workday.

May be required to assist during emergency response or evacuation procedures.
