Welty Energy is expanding and as such has a brand new opening for a Staff Accountant to join our team! 
As a member of the Welty Energy team, the Staff Accountant supports accurate, timely, and reliable financial operations by maintaining core accounting processes, ensuring strong internal controls, and enabling effective decision-making across the organization. This role partners closely with internal project teams and finance leadership to support accurate financial execution, insightful reporting, operational excellence, and customer-centric outcomes.
This role is based in-office 5 days a week in Akron, OH to support our team collaboration and hands on learning! 
As a Staff Accountant at Welty Energy, your day to day may look like:
<ul>
<li>Perform daily and weekly bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of cash balances and timely identification of discrepancies. </li>
<li>Maintain and reconcile the general ledger accounts, including balance sheet and income statement accounts.</li>
<li>Prepare, review, and post journal entries, including cash activity, accruals, and adjusting entries.</li>
<li>Analyze account activity, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies to support accurate financial reporting.</li>
<li>Process daily cash deposits, including remote deposit activity, and record EFT/ACH transactions.</li>
<li>Prepare and distribute weekly accounts receivable and cash reporting to internal stakeholders.</li>
<li>Support month-end and year-end close activities, including account reconciliations and financial statement support.</li>
<li>Support the preparation of standard financial reports and schedules, including variance analysis and trend review.</li>
<li>Assist with year-end audit and tax preparation, coordinating with external accounting firms as needed.</li>
<li>Ensure adherence to company policies, accounting standards (GAAP), and internal controls.</li>
<li>Partner with the team to identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies.</li>
<li>Maintaining accurate, complete, and timely financial records in accordance with GAAP and company policies.</li>
<li>Supporting strong internal controls by following established processes and identifying control gaps or risks.</li>
<li>Ensuring consistency and accuracy across financial data, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.</li>
<li>Assisting in the preparation and review of monthly financial reports and schedules.</li>
<li>Supporting cash management processes, including monitoring balances and identifying unusual activity.</li>
<li>Coordinating with internal teams to resolve accounting questions, discrepancies, and data issues.</li>
<li>Maintaining organized, audit-ready documentation for reconciliations, journal entries, and financial support.</li>
<li>Supporting external audit and tax requests by preparing schedules and responding to inquiries.</li>
<li>Identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes, documentation, and efficiency.</li>
<li>Contributing to a collaborative, professional, and high-accountability finance team environment.</li>
</ul>
You should bring:
<ul>
<li>A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.</li>
<li>2–5 + years of relevant accounting experience.</li>
<li>Electric utility, AEC or CM industry experience is highly advantageous. </li>
<li>Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and general ledger processes.</li>
<li>Proficiency in bank reconciliation and account reconciliation procedures.</li>
<li>Experience with journal entries and balance sheet account analysis.</li>
<li>Proficiency in Excel; experience with project accounting, Deltek Vantagepoint is a plus.</li>
<li>Strong written and verbal communication skills.</li>
<li>Effective organizational and time management abilities.</li>
<li>A solid understanding of financial analysis principles, including budgeting and reporting.</li>
<li>Willingness and ability to learn and self-navigate client-specific systems, databases, tools, and processes.</li>
